Best Innovative Product Design | Junior Design Awards 2023

Here are the leading, design-led and innovative products that captured the eyes of the judges at the Junior Design Awards 2023

Who:Yoto

What: Yoto Player 3rd Generation

Why:

The JDA panel was super impressed with the Yoto Player (3rd Generation), a smart speaker that’s built for kids in collaboration with Pentagram. Removing any of the risks associated with online listening devices (zero screens, cameras, microphones or ads) the Yoto is activated with physical cards which let children aged 3 to 12 safely explore 1,000+ audiobooks, albums and activities.

The judges agreed that this device was easy to navigate and would give kids a real sense of autonomy, choosing their favourite things to listen to.

I love the slightly retro feel of this device and the way it empowers kids to create their own playlists. Such a relief to have a screen-free gadget that you can give them free reign with

Bonita Turner, Editor of Junior

This is such a great way of getting kids to enjoy listening! I love the fact that there’s a free daily Yoto podcast and that you can leave your kids to enjoy their own selected audio without having to worry about any inappropriate content or dreaded ads

Who:KiddiKutter

What:KiddiKutter child safe knives

Why:

Knives for children? Yes indeed. The JDA panel was extremely impressed with these unique cooking knives designed especially for young children. The bright colours really stood out and the reassurance of rounded serrations that make them safe to use while still chopping effectively made them a big hit.

Scaled for smaller hands with an easy grip handle, our judges felt these knives would be a great way to introduce children – especially keen chefs – to the joys of cooking in a safe and fun way, while giving them a sense of independence and confidence in the kitchen. Brilliant!

Such a great idea. Mini chefs will love being given permission to use their own chopping knife just like a grown-up, while grown-ups can relax in the knowledge that there won’t be any cuts or knicks.

Bonita Turner, Editor of Junior

Now little ones can truly take over the kitchen without the frustration that all the fun chopping is just for grown-ups.

Who:iL Tutto

What:Stylish nursing chairs

Why:

Apart from the fact that many of our judges were incredibly grateful to have power naps in these chairs, they scored highly for their elevated design and extreme comfort with all the back, neck and arm support necessary for protracted and comfortable nursing and rocking sessions.

The panel felt these chairs were are great option for anyone looking for a nursing chair that didn’t actually look like a nursing chair and would be a long-term investment buy for the home.

These chairs are incredibly comfortable and unlike some of the rather dated nursing chairs on the market, they look like designer pieces that anyone would be proud to have in their home

Bonita Turner, Editor of Junior

The only problem I can see with these chairs is that you might have to ask your guests to vacate them when it’s time to feed your baby.
