Best Innovative Product Design (Babies & Toddlers) | Junior Design Awards 2023

The Junior Design Awards has always kept a close eye on innovation in the parenting market - so its stands to reason the best of the best will be in the winning line-up

Who:Bumbo

What:Bumbo Step 'N Potty

Why:

This product was praised for its versatility and practicality by our judges, many of whom knew only too well the trials and tribulations of the potty training journey. Converting from a soft and comfortable potty to a toilet trainer seat and step, it helps make the transition from potty to toilet training seamless, with less equipment cluttering up your bathroom.

The panel felt that clever touches including an extra comfy and warm to the touch seat and a non-slip base and lid showed that Bumbo had really thought about both the child and the parent’s experience when designing it.

A really clever design that means you have three products in one saving on money and space. I love the fact that it looks like an animal's foot, adding a touch of fun without being too garish

This potty, toilet trainer seat and stool in one felt really sturdy, comfy and reassuring. A great option for any kids who want to sit on the pot for longer (sometimes necessary!) and it looks really cute when it converts into a handy stool.

Who:Nana’s Manners

What:Nana's Manners Original Waxed Cotton Coverall, Bib and Napkin

Why:

These super cute waxed cotton coveralls, Bibs & Napkins really caught our judges’ attention. Not only did the gorgeous bright colours with contrast edging stand out but the brand’s clarion message that these are the first plastic-free, water-resistant coveralls, bibs and napkins on the market! These eco-friendly mealtime accessories are all hand-made in London using high quality, British-manufactured waxed cotton and towelling with magnetic and tie fastenings that make putting them on a doddle.

The panel were excited to discover that waxed cotton is naturally breathable making it perfect for keeping babies comfortable.

How brilliant that you can easily extend the life of your waxed cotton by reapplying the wax whenever it wears through! Comfy, protective and super eco-friendly. A great innovation for babies and parents who care.

No more hot and sweaty bibs that kids want to shake off as soon as they can. Love the soft cotton towelling and the retro colour combos.

Who:Accessories4babies

What:My Feeding Pal

Why:

There was a lot of interest in this fab little feeding gadget that is designed as a safe way to support babies weaning onto solid foods. Food is simply popped into the perforated silicone teat which can then be sucked and chewed on at leisure. Our judges loved the sleek ergonomic design that is easy for babies to hold and could see the many benefits that this feeding aid would have in terms of fine motor skills, hand-to-mouth coordination and discovering new flavours.

The two sizes of teat to grow with your baby and removable cap for when you’re on the go were much appreciated and our panel also felt that this would be a great option for teething babies when filled with chilled food.

Such a clever idea! I can see babies really enjoying this and all the thought that has gone into making it safe and parent and baby-friendly is great.

Bonita Turner, Editor of Junior

A great way to effectively get your baby to puree their own food and introduce them to lots of fresh new flavours. I can see this being a changing bag staple
