Best Interiors Product Design (Furniture) | Junior Designs Awards 2023

These award winning furniture designs got our judges' votes at this years' JDA23

Who:DockATot

What:Aristot Bassinet

Why:

Our judges were hugely impressed with this cleverly designed, handcrafted bassinet that not only adds a sense of refined luxury to your nursery or bedroom, but once grown out of, can then be converted into a stunning ottoman or table that you can treasure forever.

The panel felt that this was a brilliant way of giving a much-loved piece of baby equipment a much longer life, reducing landfill and turning something imbued with wonderful memories into a long-term piece of furniture.

Impeccable design that will cradle your baby in comfort and style and can then be repurposed into a covetable piece of furniture. So clever!

Bonita Turner, Editor of Junior

Who:Lovevery

What:The Playshelf

Why:

While deceptively simple looking, this shelving unit has many hidden qualities (quite literally) that make storing toys and playing with them a wonderful experience. Our judges loved the overall look and feel of this piece, with its clean aesthetic and beautiful 100% FSC-certified birchwood, and felt the concept behind it, to encourage clutter-free, more focused play with a limited selection of toys on display would help create a calm and happy playing zone.

The hidden storage section behind the front-facing shelf was pronounced genius and the concept of rotating toys with organised trays and bins to keep things in order was a positive talking point with the judges.

A beautiful piece of furniture that would look great in any room of the house, providing the perfect play zone for little ones.

Bonita Turner, Editor of Junior

We often overstimulate our children with way too many toys, sounds and choices. This furniture enables parents to pare down what’s available to play with at any one time while enabling kids to focus and feel a sense of ownership of their toy space. Brilliant.

Eleonore Crompton, Deputy Editor, Junior

A really attractive shelving option. I love the different shelving styles to choose from - peg rails, closed shelving and open shelving etc.

Dominy Irving, Interiors expert and influencer, @dominyirving

Well designed - I like the half storage half display option. A great way of de-cluttering the house and organising toys for more effective use and play.

Who:Great Little Trading Company

What:Paxon Modular Shelving

Why:

Our judges were super impressed with this slim-line mix-and-match modular wall storage that enables children to access their toys and books with ease and makes tidying up so easy.

The stylish, minimal design, multi-storage options and sturdy wooden construction that work in the smallest spaces, all scored highly with the JDA panel.

These shelves are a wonderful way of adding character and plenty of child-friendly storage to a nursery.

Bonita Turner, Editor of Junior

I love these shelves - they hold ALOT and front facing bookshelves are such a winner. Beautifully made as expected from GLTC!

Some great design options and variations here to suit all ages and stages.

Laura Normanton, Interiors Editor, @lauramnormanton

This is such a brilliant way of displaying toys and books in a stylish way, within easy reach of little ones who can enjoy the independence of selecting whatever they want to read or play with, whenever they like.

Who:Il Tutto

What:Design Conscious Nursing Chairs

Why:

The two different styles of nursing chairs that were delivered to Junior HQ really caused a stir and it seemed as if they were permanently occupied by our judges who couldn’t resist the opportunity for a calming, comfy rest. These ergonomically designed chairs felt enveloping yet supportive, offering a great space for long feeding sessions and bonding time.

With their clever use of on-trend fabrics and classic designs, our judges felt that these chairs far exceeded their functional purpose, becoming covetable pieces of furniture in their own right.

These chairs were thoroughly tested during the awards, not least by me! Super comfortable and supportive and the kind of chair you would love to have in your home regardless of when your nursing journey is over.

Bonita Turner, Editor of Junior

Beautiful chairs that would be a lovely addition to your nursery.

Dominy Irving, Interiors expert and influencer, @dominyirving

Incredibly comfortable! I found myself rocking in it without noticing I was doing so. Nearly sent me to sleep!

Laura Normanton, Interiors Editor, @lauramnormanton

The Bouclé rocker is my dream chair! If I was investing in a nursing chair that I could then keep forever, this would be it.

Who:Boori

What:Forest Teepee Single Bed

Why:

We all loved this teepee-inspired bed that has the option of a canvas canopy to make bedtime feel like a real camping experience. This Single Bed crafted from Australian/New Zealand pine timber had a wonderfully high quality finish and the judges could see that it would create a lovely centrepiece in any child’s room.

The versatility of the removable canvas roof and the entirely removable teepee frame, scored highly with the panel.

Such a fun bed at a really good price point. A great option for anyone looking for that cosy Scandi vibe.

Bonita Turner, Editor of Junior

The quality of the wood is fab and I like that the edges are all curves so there are no sharp edges/corners.

Dominy Irving, Interiors expert and influencer, @dominyirving

Just what I need at home!

Emma Tunbridge,Children’s fashion photographer, @emmatunbridge

A great bed that will appeal to a parent’s sense of taste and a child's sense of fun.
