Junior Design Awards 2022 / 26 September 2022

Best Innovative Product Design | Junior Design Awards 2022

One of the key reasons for launching the Junior Design Awards over 10 years ago was to champion innovation and creativity in the children's lifestyle sector. This award seeks the newest kids on the block... destined to become the design stars of the the future.

Who:Rockit

What:Wooshh Sound Soother

Why:

A pocket sized but mighty sound soother from Rockit.
Innovation is Rockit’s well-trodden territory but even our judges were surprised to discover how powerful, versatile and extremely portable their new 6 cm high sound soother is. Fulfilling the real needs of parents on the go, with babies who need white noise to soothe themselves to sleep and settle, this tiny sound machine came through on so many levels

Our judges were impressed by the range of sounds available, the different volume settings, the power of the highest volume setting to really cut through other outside noises and the fact that this gadget is USB rechargeable. The 1-hour auto shutdown mode, which is great for daytime naps, was much admired as was the 10-hour all-night mode for those extra challenging nights. All-in-all a product that provides an excellent solution to a very real parenting need and helps make life less stressful.

The layers of thought, tech and innovation that have gone into this TINY product are just mind boggling. A game-changer for so many stressed and sleep starved parents.

If you know, you know. Babies who only soothe to white noise are not nearly as rare as you think and to have a powerful portable product like this to help settle a sleep resisting child in their buggy or cot will be a godsend for so many parents.

Who:Patch World

What:Plant-fibre patches that can be sewn or ironed on to existing clothes to create an instant costume.

Why:

These cute patches with a retro feel were a huge hit with our judges who loved the concept of creating dressing up clothes with the simple addition of some well-placed embroidered labels and a dash of imagination, rather than buying yet another polyester costume that will ultimately end up in landfill.

Everyone loved the nostalgic quality of the patches that come in co-ordinating sets of three and thought they would look fab decorating any clothes whether you were in the mood for acting or not! After all who wouldn’t want to be an explorer or have a cute little reminder that an apple a day keeps the doctor away?

These are so clever! Absolutely love the retro design, the witty slogans and the nostalgic feeling they provoke.

LOVE!

Charlotte Jolly, Beauty Director, Hello! and Hello! Fashion @mscharliejolly

The perfect gift for aspiring doctors, chefs and explorers. In fact, I want to sew some of these onto my jacket!

Who:Carry-On

What:Digital Wind Instrument

Why:

This quirky looking flute really tickled our judges who loved the retro styling and the 10 “voices” that can be heard via the instrument’s built-in speaker or headphones.

The panel felt that this was the perfect choice for musical kids who want to try something different or for anyone just starting out on their path to world famous composer. The option of playing silently or out loud definitely appealed to the judges too!

Such a cool looking instrument that will get everyone talking and inspire kids who love to mix music and tech. Plus a great addition to last years winning Carry-On Piano.

Bonita Turner, Editor of Junior

I can see this being a fantastic Christmas present. Perfect for kids who want to learn an instrument without being impacted by lack of space and great for tech fans who can hook this up to blue tooth for extra fun.
