Best Family Cookbook | Junior Design Awards 2022

When it comes to family cooking, baking with children and eating together, these are the books we'll be reaching for this year!

Who:Annabel Karmel’s Fun Fast and Easy Children’s Cookbook (Wellbeck)

What:A practical cookbook from leading children's cookery author Annabel Karmel

Why:

Our panel loved this cookbook, packed full of really yummy, nutritious recipes that introduce children to a wider palette of food from around the world as well as treats that look as good as they taste.

The fun food styling really stood out and lots of our judges commented that these dishes would really grab kids’ imaginations and encourage happy eaters.

A brilliant cookbook to work through with your kids! There are some really clever meals here that I know children will want on repeat.

What is not to like about fun, fast and easy!! Cooking and eating will turn into something fun for everyone.

The presentation ideas alone are fantastic. Kids will love looking at the pictures and bringing these deceptively simple recipes to life.

Who:Cooking Activity Cards for Kids (Bananrocket)

What:Cooking Activity Cards designed to encourage kids to get creative in the kitchen and promote quality family time.

Why:

These nifty packs of cooking activity cards not only give kids plenty of tasty meal ideas but provide an extra layer of activities and fun with absorbing puzzles and fascinating facts.

Our panel really liked the way these cards introduced children to cooking in a bite sized way that wasn’t at all intimidating and the fact that these cards are wipeable scored extra points! The brand’s strong emphasis on sustainable production also impressed.

Great idea. I think this would encourage some kids to cook.

The fact that children can take ownership of these cards and really connect with them in a physical sense feels like a great way to get them involved in the kitchen. Love the clear and fun illustrations too.

Bonita Turner, Editor of JUNIOR

A great alternative to the usual book format for kids who like to keep things focused and fun. Wipeable too, so no smears and blotches!

Who:Sammy Satsuma

What:A unique fully personalised, family cookbook

Why:

We’ve all seen personalised story books but never a personalised cook book! Our judges loved this idea, which not only makes children feel special and gives them ownership of their cooking experience, but makes the whole process heaps of fun. Great recipes, devised by celebrity Chef Jo Pratt and lots of appealing cartoon characters to draw kids in really impressed the JDA panel.

Absolutely love these illustrations that remind me of The Munch Bunch from when I was little! A really clever idea, that will make little chefs feel very special

Bonita Turner, Editor of JUNIOR

This is so much more than a great personalised gift. The recipes, photography and fun cartoon characters are all brilliantly thought out
