Junior Design Awards 2022 / 26 September 2022

Best Eco Nappy Brand | Junior Design Awards 2022

A brand new award to this year's JDA and an important one. Eco nappies are the future of modern parenting these are the very best we've seen this year...

Who:Pim Pam

What:Reusable Pocket Nappy

Why:

This reusable pocket nappy really wowed our judges who loved the cool, contemporary prints and the simple, easy to use design, which consists of a waterproof outer shell and two absorbent inserts. The panel were also pleased to see that these nappies are unisex and one size fits most, meaning that they will fit a baby from birth to potty training age and can then be passed down through siblings – boy or girl.

With disposable nappies taking around 500 years to degrade and with the average baby needing over 2,000 nappies a year, our panel felt that Pim Pam were doing a great job to encourage stylish, eco conscious parents to give reusable nappies a go.

These are nappies that you will really want to show off for so many reasons! The prints are cool but adorable, the design is super easy to use and most importantly, they prevent nappy landfill.

Who:Modern Cloth Nappies

What:Re-usable one size fits all nappies

Why:

Our judges were really drawn to these nappies, which they felt featured more whimsical and vintage inspired prints than they had seen elsewhere, giving parents the option of both pretty and contemporary styles.

With their one size fits all model and commitment to a sustainable chain of production, this brand was a big hit with the JDA panel.

So pretty, I love the design and imagery.

Who:Beaming Baby

What:The first organic bamboo disposable nappy packaged in paper

Why:

Next to reusable nappies, these eco-friendly disposable nappies seem like the very next best thing. Our judges were super impressed with this brand that has managed to create a nappy that is 78% biodegradable making it the most biodegradable and eco-friendly disposable nappy available in the UK.

The soft, chlorine free, organic bamboo fibre that helps to prevent nappy rash and keeps chemicals away from baby skin, was a big plus for our panel as was the brand’s extra commitment to making all their packaging from brown paper and recyclable bio film.

I love this product. The packaging, the idea behind it. Perfect for busy mums who would love to be more sustainable and eco-friendly but aren't quite ready to fully commit to reusables.

Charlotte Kewley children’s stylist, @thelittlestylist

I used these nappies for my son and thought they were excellent. Occasionally I would use a regular mainstream nappy and would straight away notice the difference in softness and smell. These are softer and the chemical smell is actually really strong in non eco-disposables when you stop to notice!

Eleonore Crompton, Deputy Editor, JUNIOR

This feels like a brand that is really trying to refine and improve their product on an ongoing basis. The fact that these nappies are over 78% biodegradable and 34% more bio-degradable than other eco disposables speaks for itself.

Who:Tots Bots

What:Reusable Newborn Nappy Trial Kits

Why:

Our judges extremely impressed to learn that TotsBots is the first reusable nappy company in the world to make 100% of their waterproof fabric from plastic bottle waste! So that means they’re reducing landfill and plastic waste in two different directions. The panel thought these UK designed and made nappy kits felt well made and catered for different needs including heavy wetters and newborn sizes.

The panel agreed that the trial kits felt like a great entry point for parents to try out the different versions of the Tot Bots nappies before they committed to a full kit of a specific model.

These thoughtfully designed nappies made from recycled bottle waste are a fantastic choice for parents who want to make sure they’re doing their bit for the planet from every angle.

Bonita Turner, Editor JUNIOR

This sounds like an amazing product! I love the idea of the starter nappy kit as eco nappies and all of the information that comes along with them can be a little overwhelming. Or so I found!

Charlotte Kewley, children’s stylist, @thelittlestylist

A great way for parents to try out eco-friendly reusable nappies at a reasonable price before they commit to a whole set.
