Junior Design Awards 2022 / 26 September 2022

Best Creative Play (Educational) | Junior Design Awards 2022

Creative play for children can also be educational - done in this fun way they learn while playing. These are some of the judges favourites from the annual JDA

Who:Good Earth

What:Seasonal Organic Grow Kits & Seed Collections

Why:

The cool yet friendly graphic designs on these individual seed packs and kits really stood out to our judges who felt this brand was working hard to help children connect with nature in a fun and engaging way.

The JDA panel could see the care and attention that had gone into ensuring that these kits were low impact and ethically made, from the packaging to the pencils, with every component being compostable, biodegradable or recyclable. A fab eco-friendly gift that highlights the importance of respecting the planet – with the bonus of some lovely edible treats.

The design is just spot on and the eco-credentials are impeccable. When these first landed on my desk - they had me at design!

Who:Djeco

What:Ze Mirror Educational Toy

Why:

The panel loved the originality of this toy that no one had ever seen before. The use of a reflective mirror to create exciting shapes and faces was applauded as a simple way to pique kids’ interest in design, symmetry and the science of reflection.

This simple concept that provides hours of fun and interactive play was a huge hit.

A fun and engaging game with beautiful design.

Sergei Urban, @thedadlab

Mirrors are endlessly intriguing and this game harnesses our natural curiosity for all things shiny and reflective in a fun and accessible way.

Who:The Phive

What:Enchanting Learning Phonics and Storytelling cards

Why:

These beautifully illustrated, sustainable phonics and storytelling cards were super popular with the JDA panel who agreed that they would help make learning at home or in schools a more engaging experience for children.

The unusual square shape, detailed illustrations, clever phonic prompts and beautiful hard card presentation box all came together to create a pack that would make sitting down together feel like a special moment rather than a chore.

I love the chunky feel of these card sets, which look anything but boring or study related. A great way to encourage engaged and happy learners.

Bonita Turner, Editor of JUNIOR

Beautifully designed and considered cards that will intrigue kids and stimulate their imaginations before they even realise they’re learning.
