JUNIOR DESIGN AWARDS WINNERS FOR BEST UNISEX FASHION COLLECTION: GOLD

WHO: MoonKids Collective

WHAT: Once Upon A Fair Unisex Collection

WHY: This collection of organic cotton separates was a huge hit with the JDA panel who loved the soft, on trend colours, playful graphic prints and high quality feel. The Once Upon a Fair theme, inspired by the nostalgia of childhoods spent at the funfair, really appealed to our judges who felt it made great unisex territory – the big wheel motif was super popular. Perfect for everyday play while looking incredibly cute.

I love this collection that lets kids be kids in beautiful colours and prints that are pared back but a lot of fun.

WHO: Little Beasties

WHAT: Wildly Magical Collection

WHY: This brand really captured the panel’s imagination with its embellished, high quality clothing that takes its inspiration from retro American clothing with a large dose of magic. Chunky corduroy shirts, cosy raglan sweatshirts and t-shirts featuring clever slogans and screen printed messages with twinkling stars, really excited the judges who felt they were the perfect choice for mini seekers of magic.

Clothing that distils the magic of childhood.

This is one of my favourite brands from the JDAs. Really cool and wearable but with a magical twist. I love the mustard corduroy shirt and the campfire t-shirts.

WHY: Cute, contemporary and full of personality, these gorgeous, well-made organic cotton separates for children from 0-5 years really appealed to our judges who loved the fun graphic prints that they felt every child could relate to. The panel was impressed to hear that this collection is made by hand in Edinburgh and thought this brand was a great example of how small businesses can take close control of the sustainability and the quality of their product.

Love the prints and the simple stylish cuts that babies and children will feel cosy and comfy in.

WHO: The QT

WHAT: Cuties of Australia - a sustainable unisex clothing collection

WHY: Our judges felt that this brand really did provide a wonderfully ethical and ‘cute’ way to shop for little ones. The soft 100% GOTS certified organic cotton and high quality finish of the clothes was much admired as were clever details like reinforced knees for extra wear and the decision to use entirely compostable materials from sewing threads to labels. The brand’s premise that cute clothes aren’t just for girls was evident, especially in their t-shirts, which are decorated with illustrations of endearing Aussie animals that all children will love.

The thought and care that has gone into designing this collection, particularly regarding sustainability, longevity and wear, really stands out.
Bonita Turner, Editor of JUNIOR
