Best Innovative Product Design (Babies & Toddlers) | Junior Design Awards 2024

The Junior Design Awards has always kept a close eye on innovation in the parenting market - so its stands to reason the best of the best will be in the winning line-up

Winner:JOINT GOLD Best Innovative Product Design (Babies & Toddlers)

Who:Rockit

What:Zed by Rockit

Why:

All the Gen Xers who spent the small hours driving their babies to sleep on the motorway, might be slightly triggered by the Zed by Rockit. This clever invention emulates the low-frequency vibrations of a car and can be placed on the mattress by your baby’s feet so that finely tuned vibrations ripple gently through the mattress, comforting them and lulling them to sleep. Our judges thought this innovation would give parents of hard-to-settle babies a real helping hand, freeing them up from constantly circling the block or rocking their baby in pursuit of peace.

This is so clever. I like the option to choose from different modes to find the vibrations that work for your baby.

I would have committed crimes to get my hands on one of these when my sleep-fighting eldest was born many moons ago.

Winner:JOINT GOLD Best Innovative Product Design (Babies & Toddlers)

Who:smart trike

What:smartrike Traveller

Why:

Our judges were super impressed with this buggy/trike hybrid that not only gives parents a great space-saving two-in-one product and a transport option that spans 6 months to 4 years but is a real solution to buggy rejection! Scoring for its sleek design, attention to safety, 360° XL front wheels for navigating bumpy terrain and a reclining seat for naptime – even in trike mode, this stylish buggy, which easily transforms into a guided trike and then into a fully independent trike was a resounding success with the JDA panel.

This feels like it gives the best of both worlds to parents and toddlers. The design is really stylish and pared back, while the sense of independence the trike mode gives to toddlers will cut down on tantrums and help make journeys much happier.

This is a great option for families who want to keep the peace with stubborn toddlers, giving them an exciting ride and helping them develop motor skills along the way. The compact fold is also super impressive! Great for easy storage.

Winner:SILVER Best Innovative Product Design (Babies & Toddlers)

Who:Splash About

What:Happy Nappy DUO

Why:

The clever design of this reusable swim nappy really impressed our judges who could
see how much research and innovation had gone into its unique three-dimensional shape,
which features a specialist waist and thigh ribbing to effectively prevent those dreaded faecal leaks. The use of pliable neoprene and an internal antibacterial silver lining to create a soothing layer against delicate skin while destroying faecal bacteria (including E.coli) was another masterstroke.

A great example of where true innovation was needed and a multi-layered solution was found. These swim nappies are excellent.

This design looks so simple but works hard to give little ones a comfortable swimming experience while protecting their skin and everyone else from unwanted pool guests.

Winner:BRONZE Best Innovative Product Design (Babies & Toddlers)

Who:brush-baby

What:Bobbie Bunny Teether

Why:

This new addition to the brush-baby family was well received by our judges who
could see that this bristled teether would not only be a great teething aid but would help clean emerging teeth and encourage a positive association with brushing and good oral health from an early age. The panel loved the cute bunny design, the easy-to-grip shape and the way this teether encourages sensory and motor skills development.

You can see this teether will be super appealing to little ones and the textured ears are easy to chew down on giving babies a lovely sensory experience.

Bonita Turner, Editor of Junior, @juniormagazineonline

Great innovation and cuteness in one clever package. I can see these bunnies being hugely popular with teething babies.
