WHO: Woom 2

WHAT: A lightweight first pedal bike

WHY: If you can still remember the arm strain and bruised shins from hauling your first bike around, you’ll be as excited as our judges were to discover how wonderfully lightweight and easy to manoeuvre the Woom 2 kid's bike is. The JDA panel was extremely impressed by the light aluminium frame, the robust 14″ wheels and the colour coded, easy to reach gears and brakes, making this a very high scoring first bike for kids age 3-4 years.

This is such a wonderfully light bike, with so many cool details that will help kids get to grips with riding ASAP.

The lightweight aluminium frame will be a gamechanger for so many children, not to mention for parents carrying the bike home again…

WHO: Micro Scooters

WHAT: Micro Scooter Maxi Deluxe Pro

WHY: Our judges loved this chopper style scooter that blends retro charm with up-to-the-minute engineering. The wider, sporty front wheels and longer handlebars not only look great but give this scooter a more substantial feel that the JDA panel felt would give kids an extra sense of security and stability. The extra grippy silicone mouldings on the reinforced footplate also reassured our parent judges that this scooter would be a safe ride for speed demons and fledgling riders alike.

This is the scooter that makes kids feel cool and grown-ups feel reassured. An excellent mix of design and function.

WHO: SmarTrike

WHAT: Xtend Balance to Pedal Bike

WHY: Our judges were really impressed with this clever 3-in-1 design that transforms from a balance bike to a pedal bike with ease and can then be extended with its unique telescopic frame to fit children all the way up to 6 years. The panel could see how this bike would save time and money for parents and have a softer impact on the environment. As well as scoring well in terms of practical design, the JDA judges felt this bike looked great too.

Such a clever idea that means a child can keep riding the same bike for at least 4 years.

A space saving, eco-friendlier option for families who want to invest in one decent bike that lasts. Love the fact that no tools are required to convert it!

WHO: Black Mountain

WHAT: EZ:Shift gear shifter

WHY: Our JDA judges agreed that this was a game changing gear changer, enabling kids to shift gears with remarkable ease. This innovative system designed by the bike boffins at Black Mountain is now available on the latest versions of their HÜTTO and KAPĒL bikes and the panel could see how much it would improve a child’s experience of cycling, giving a much smoother ride and helping children feel more comfortable and confident about moving up a gear or down.

No more wobbling about reaching for your gears and praying your fingers will reach the clunky levers! A fantastic invention from the people who know kids bikes inside out.
Bonita Turner, Editor of JUNIOR
Adapting the gears to suit little hands and fingers is such a great idea and will make such a positive difference to kids learning to ride.
