Five ways to make your child's school greener

1 Get involved
The school’s PTA is your best chance to ask teachers if recycling is encouraged in your child’s classroom.

2 Organise an eco fair
It’s a great way to get children thinking about green issues and can include demonstrations of recycling techniques. Get local businesses involved, too.

3 Talk to the school governors
Find out how they’re working to make classrooms more energy efficient. Is the school committed to green construction?

4 Walk to school
The average distance a child must travel to primary school in the UK is less than 1.5 miles, so set aside a little more time in the morning and walk.

5 Lead by example
Make sure you practise what you preach and also that your child’s eco education continues beyond the classroom.
