Yogi Bear
Comedy capers with the bears from Jellystone Park
PRIDING HIMSELF IN a less than modest fashion as “smarter than the average bear”, life has always been something of a pic-a-nic for Yogi Bear and his sidekick, Boo Boo. Still wearing his signature hat and collar (the latter not apparently a sartorial statement, but actually a resources-saving ploy back in the old Hanna-Barbera days which allowed Yogi’s body to be kept static and just his head redrawn when he talked, thus reducing the number of drawings needed).
Now, Yogi’s look is updated with the CGI treatment – in 3D to boot – but his penchant for picnic pilfering is in jeopardy as his beloved home, Jellystone Park, is threatened by closure. Can Yogi save the day? Needless to say, his rescue plans are not without their comic mishaps, but his heart is always in the right place – except, of course, when he gets distracted by a rumbling stomach. With voice-overs from Dan Aykroyd as Yogi and Justin Timberlake as Boo Boo (how cute is that?), this is a charming modern-day adventure featuring the well-loved cartoon character of yore.
Yogi Bear (cert U) is out on DVD on June 6.
