The Bath Priory, Bath

Sometimes a family getaway needs to work hard to feel like a proper break. But The Bath Priory makes it feel effortless. Set in a honey-hued Georgian house surrounded by beautiful gardens— chocolate-box pretty and just a short stroll from central Bath—it’s the kind of place where kids are welcomed, not just tolerated. There’s room to roam, delicious food to devour, trees to climb and even baby monitors on hand. Whether you’ve got a toddler or a teen in tow (or both!), this hotel ticks boxes for all ages and still leaves space for a grown-up glass of wine.

The Suites: Big enough to play hide and seek in

The family suites aren’t just stylish, they’re genuinely spacious—perfect for post-bath zoomies, bedtime stories or a classic game of hide and seek. We stayed in the Royal Suite, which had two generous bathrooms with tubs, generous showers and L’Occitane toiletries galore. Robes and slippers are provided for everyone—even the kids. You’ll find a fridge stocked with water, elderflower fizz and milk (plus a pro-style milk frother), freshly baked cookies, snacks, a coffee machine and even port for the adults.

Dining: Grown-up food for little ones

Children are welcome to dine in all the restaurants—including the fine dining room—and menus are tailored to little tastebuds (and big appetites). From sausages and fresh pasta to croque monsieur and salmon sandwiches, meals come with garden greens, peas or potatoes, cooked any way you like. Allergy or special request? Just let the team know—they’re brilliant. There’s even a ‘mocktail’ menu for kids.

Adults can enjoy inventive dishes like Orkney scallops with soy and truffle vinaigrette or Cornish turbot with sea vegetables, in the 3 AA Rosette restaurant with an award-winning wine list. For more casual dining, The Pantry offers tempting small plates and hearty mains—think burrata with Isle of Wight tomatoes or a thick chunk of locally sourced ribeye steak from the grill.

Indoor pool: Splashy fun, rain or shine

A warm, indoor pool is a must for British weather—and The Bath Priory delivers a stylish spa-space that’s great for all. With loungers, olive trees and garden views, it’s perfect for a family dip. There’s also an aroma steam room, sauna and the L’Occitane Spa, offering renowned treatments and manis/pedis. The on-site gym is ideal if you fancy a workout.

Outdoor pool: For sunny-day swims

On warmer days, the outdoor heated pool makes you feel like you’ve flown to the Med. It’s perfect for paddling, splashing or serious swimming. Fluffy towels, robes and comfy loungers (under the shade of the parasols) are all ready and waiting.

Board games galore & a cosy library

There’s a great stash of books, board games and puzzles for family time, whether you’re into Monopoly marathons or a speedy round of Connect Four or Scabble post dinner, there’s fun and games to be had for all.

Location: Close to Bath’s best bits

The hotel is just a short walk from the Roman Baths, where kids can explore ancient pools, dress up in togas and enjoy an audio guide narrated by a child. Longleat Safari Park is under an hour away, and other nearby attractions include Bath Aqua Theatre of Glass, boating lakes, Avon Valley Wildlife Park and Bath City Farm.

Want something unique? Ask the hotel about arranging a supercar experience or join Blue Badge guide Fred Mawer for a walking tour of Bath’s most iconic film locations, from Bridgerton to Wonka. Finish the day with a picture-perfect afternoon tea back at the hotel.

Gardens: You’ll want to get lost in

Four acres of glorious gardens and meadows give kids the freedom to run wild. There’s a giant Cedar of Lebanon tree for climbing plus lawns perfect for cartwheels, races and relaxed picnics.

Outdoor games & yoga bears

Try your hand at croquet or boules in the sunshine, or grab a yoga mat and follow the adorable, printed yoga bear through some stretches on the grass. Mindful movement made fun.

Posh picnics on the lawn

Let the kitchen pack you a picnic hamper and head out into the grounds. For kids: crunchy veggies with hummus, sausage rolls, smoked salmon sandwiches, crisps and flapjacks. For adults: charcuterie, cheeses, salad and perhaps a chilled glass of fizz.

Baby and kids’ kit covered

The Bath Priory has thought of everything for travelling families. Highchairs, baby monitors, bottle warmers, sterilisers, changing mats, wooden cots or travel cots, nappy bins, step stools and child-friendly tableware are all on hand.
