Junior Magazine Book Awards 2025 Best Children’s Book 6+ (Published in the last 12 mths) | Junior Design Awards 2025

Winner:GOLD - Best Children’s Book 6+ Years

Who:DK Books

What:You and Your Body by Dr Punam Krishan with illustrations by Verónika Cháves Morales

Why:

Our judges loved this fun and friendly book that gives kids an exciting window into the inner workings of the human body. The JDA felt the tone was spot on, creating a warm and informative springboard for further conversations with grown-ups. The simple illustrations, 90 lift the flap features and fun facts make this a book that kids will love to pore over giving them a good understanding of basic human biology and hopefully inspiring them to learn more.

A book that every kid will love to read. The flaps make it super engaging and Dr Krishan’s words make complex topics digestible for children.

Bonita Turner, Editor

Winner:SILVER - Best Children’s Book 6+ Years

Who:Mindful Champs

What:My Unique Family Journal

Why:

Created to offer guidance and support to children whose parents are going through a divorce or separation, this carefully thought out book really stood out to our judges who thought it filled a much needed gap for supporting children’s wellbeing at this often challenging and confusing time. The panel agreed that it gave children a safe space to express and work through their feelings, offering helpful coping strategies while guiding parents along the way.

My parents divorced when I was little and I would have really benefitted from this book. Children are often left to work through things by themselves while the grown-ups go through their own struggles so this is much needed.

Eleonore Crompton, Deputy Editor, Junior

I love these journals and that explore emotions and feelings in a child-led way…

Who: Living Arts

What:Boxing Kangaroo Wins a Friend by Suzana Pezo

Why:

Never judge a book by its cover, but in this case, we have to say the arresting artwork on the front of this book, really got our judges talking! Kay the Kangaroo in full boxing regalia is an arresting image and the clever contents of this book keep little attention spans going! Readers will love following this rhyming picture book that teaches wonderful lessons about friendship, courage and kindness with lots of fun and fascinating facts along the way.

A really lovely book.
