A Magical Knight’s Stay at the Castle Hotel at LEGOLAND Windsor Resort

Tucked just a dragon’s breath away from the entrance to LEGOLAND Windsor Resort lies a hotel that feels as if it’s been plucked straight from a storybook. With turrets, treasure hunts, and even a snoozing LEGO dragon, the Castle Hotel is a full-blown medieval adventure. Zoey Goto and her two children, aged 8 and 14, checked in for a spellbinding sleepover.

The Welcome

There’s something undeniably theatrical about arriving at the Castle Hotel. The exterior is purpose-built to impress younger guests, with mock stone walls and LEGO flags flapping in the breeze. Inside, the hotel leans heavily into its medieval theme, with a towering LEGO wizard and furnishings that feel like the set of a Harry Potter film.

Following a speedy check-in, it was straight up to our room – and straight into a treasure hunt. It begins the moment you walk through the door, with clues hidden in the carpet and walls that lead to a code to open the in-room safe. Cue cheers of excitement: waiting inside was a LEGO prize for each of my children. They both agreed this was a far more exciting way to receive a welcome gift than finding it placed on a pillow.

It was a simple idea, well-executed, that instantly set the tone for our stay. This is a family-focused hotel that understands what makes kids tick and delivers fun from the outset.

Inside The Castle Hotel Rooms

We stayed in a standard knights room (there are also wizard themed rooms) and while I had seen plenty of photos online, nothing quite captures the level of detail until you’re standing in it. Every surface plays a part in the theme, with murals, shields, faux stained-glass panels, and LEGO brick-style tiling in the bathroom.

The room layout is great for families. The kids’ area is tucked away in a separate alcove with bunk beds (plus a pull-out), its own TV, games console, and just enough space to feel semi-private. Adding into the mix the king-size bed and a foldout cot, our room had the potential to sleep a family of six. Storage is adequate: fine for a weekend, but if you’re staying longer or have more than one suitcase per person, things might feel tight. There are also a mini fridge and an iron in the room.

Our room overlooked the pond, which turned out to be a real highlight. After the park closed and the crowds dispersed, the calm was a welcome contrast to the noise of the day.

Exploring the Castle Hotel at LEGOLAND Windsor

The Castle Hotel is small by resort standards, with just two floors and 61 rooms, but that’s all part of its charm. It feels manageable and is easy to navigate even with younger kids in tow. Despite its size, the space is packed with 657 handcrafted LEGO sculptures, made from over 2.1 million bricks. You’re never more than a few steps from something that will spark a child’s curiosity or prompt a quick photo op.

Just outside, there’s a small play park and a few picnic benches, perfect for parents to enjoy a drink while the kids burn off the last of their energy. In the evenings, entertainment takes place in the main lobby area, with a high-energy kids’ disco and meet-and-greets with costumed characters. It’s simple, but effective, and keeps the entertainment going well past park closing time.

The Castle Hotel is just a short stroll along a wooden walkway from the main LEGOLAND Hotel, where much of the additional activity happens, including swimming. The pool area is pirate-themed, with a slide, splash pool, and a larger family pool surrounded by playful swashbuckling décor. Entry is booked in timed sessions, which helps keep numbers down and the space from feeling too chaotic.

There are towels and a small changing area with showers right at the entrance to the pool, so there’s no need to traipse through the hotel in wet swimwear. Definitely book your swim slot in advance, as the most popular time slots go quickly, especially on weekends and during school holidays.

Dining: Breakfast in the Great Hall

While we didn’t dine at the Tournament Tavern for dinner, we did enjoy breakfast there, which felt like feasting in a medieval banquet hall. The interior is fully themed, with colourful bunting, shields adorning the walls, and a large dragon sculpture, made with an impressive 80,500 bricks, guarding the fireplace at the centre of the room.

A hearty breakfast is included with your stay: the full English (with vegetarian and vegan options for adults), plus smaller child-sized versions for little ones. There’s also a continental choice served in a little bucket, featuring cereal, a pastry, fruit, and yoghurt. You can upgrade for a small fee to add extras like French toast, waffles, bagels, or omelettes, and frothy coffees are available at an additional cost. It’s no-frills food, but tasty and filling: perfect fuel for a day at the park.

Early Entry to the LEGOLAND Park

Best of all, guests staying at the Castle Hotel enjoy early access to LEGOLAND Windsor. From 9:30 to 10:00 am, four popular rides – Flight of the Sky Lion, Hydra’s Challenge, Laser Raiders, and Coastguard HQ – are exclusively open to hotel guests, meaning significantly shorter queues.

Top Tip: Flight of the Sky Lion is the must-do here. Added in 2021, it’s the star attraction in the MYTHICA: World of Mythical Creatures zone: a soaring flying theatre experience that often draws the longest queues later in the day, so it’s well worth heading there first.

For families who’ve visited the park before, there are some exciting new additions for 2025. The standout is Minifigure Speedway, a duelling rollercoaster launched in spring 2025. It’s now the fastest ride at the park, reaching dizzying speeds of around 35 mph and featuring tracks that run both forwards and in reverse, allowing riders to race each other. I left that one to my thrill-seeking kids, but we all enjoyed a more leisurely spin on the City Deep Sea Adventure, an underwater submarine ride that glides past sharks and stingrays. It’s recently reopened after a full refurbishment and feels fresh and immersive.

Elsewhere, Miniland London has been updated with several new iconic buildings, crafted using over 2 million LEGO bricks. And over in the USA section, the Route 66 display has been spruced up just in time for its centennial in 2026.

It’s worth noting that LEGOLAND Windsor operates seasonally. The main season runs from March 13 to November 1, with the Brick or Treat Halloween event taking place from October 4 to November 1. The park then reopens on selected dates between November 22 and January 4 for festive celebrations.

The Verdict: A LEGO Stay Worth Building

The Castle Hotel knows its audience – families with young LEGO fans – and leans fully into making the stay feel magical. For special occasions (we spotted plenty of children proudly wearing birthday badges), spending the night at the Castle Hotel adds an extra layer of excitement to a day at the theme park. The attention to detail in the enchanted theme was especially impressive, and early park access was a welcome perk.

After a full day of looping the loop and exploring every corner of the park, we left our LEGOLAND weekend with tired legs and two happy kids who were already asking when we could come back.

Insider Tip
Request a pond-facing room if you can. After a day of high-energy fun, it’s surprisingly soothing to sit by the window and watch the ducks glide across the water while the park sleeps.
