There’s no doubt that waking up with a balcony view over white sands and crystal waters is balm for the soul. Add to that, stunning Mauritian style thatch roof architecture, lush tropical grounds, beautiful swimming pools and staff who cannot do enough for you and it’s little wonder that the many families we spotted enjoying themselves at Shandrani looked so blissfully content.
A few points that really stood out to us here in terms of meeting family friendly expectations were the incredibly warm and friendly staff who really are like human sunbeams, great dining for families with an incredible range of choices,  the short distance from the airport (just half an hour drive) making this a great option for families who don’t want their kids cooped up in a car for too long, the sheltered lagoon style cove in front of the hotel that is great for younger kids to play on and the long stretch of  stunning open coastline, which is perfect for long walks, not to  mention getting married on! We also loved all the water-based activities on offer for families including pedal boats, snorkelling, water-skiiing and more.
Rooms are typically sleek yet warm with room for cots and trundle beds.

There is an incredibly broad range of accommodation on offer at Shandrani to suit families of all configurations. Happily, there is also a new, adults only block of apartments and designated beach area, which means families can really relax, knowing that the hotel provides plenty of quiet spaces for couples to enjoy where they won’t be disturbed by exuberant kids.
The Shandrani has just added several apartments to their collection that feature roof decks complete with hot tubs, stylish outdoor furniture and sail style canopies for sun protection. We could see these being a great option for families with teens who want their own space and something extra cool to post on their socials.
We loved the super spacious and beautifully appointed bathrooms.

The Leisure Facilities
So much to do or not!
There are so many ways to relax and so many activies to enjoy at this resort. For some time-out we would thoroughly recommend the tranquil spa. We booked a full body massage and would give the treatment a firm 10 out of 10.
For anyone looking for sports and activities, there are endless choices from tennis, golf, the gym, exercise classes, waterskiing, snorkelling, trips on glass bottom boats to see the sea life and so much more.

The Food
The breakfast buffet of dreams and a choice of family friendly restaurants
On arrival we made a beeline for the newly refurbished buffet-style restaurant Le Grand Port for breakfast. This is one of the most beautiful breakfast venues we’ve ever visited with an incredible array of food on offer, ranging from fresh salads, tropical fruits, homemade yoghurts and cold meats all housed in a chilled glass breakfast area to stacks of American style pancakes, waffles and every kind of hot food you can imagine in the main eating area, which is circular and open to the elements with a view of the beach. There were lots of families of all ages here, enjoying a long drawn out start to the day. The restaurant then opens again for lunch and then dinner and is a great spot for dining, people watching and enjoying the ocean view.
Shandrani has a choice of 6 restaurants in total, ranging from sophisticated to lively. We saw lots of families dining at Le Grand Port and Ponte Vecchio, an Italian Trattoria style restaurant that serves delicious Mediterranean food and deserts the kids will drool over.

Shandrani Beachcomber’s dedicated kids’ club is available for children aged 3 to 12 and provides a lovely safe space for kids to get stuck into games and crafts while meeting new friends.
As well as plenty of fun activities during the day, the kids’ club offers themed evenings that include movie nights, and interactive games so the grown-ups can book a quiet evening meal or take a stroll along the beach.
