In 1992, two young mothers decided to start up a unique publishing house with eco-friendly values and an imaginative output which would “spark curiosity, inspire creativity” and “instil a respect for the diversity of the planet”.
Nearly two decades later, Barefoot Books is a transatlantic children’s publishing house as well as a worldwide community of writers, parents, librarians and anybody else who shares the Barefoot philosophy: Imagine, explore, create, connect, give back.
Now, to celebrate the opening of their first British storytelling studio, Barefoot Books invite you to their shiny new premises in Oxford for their Big Weekend event.
A full calendar of free activities will be on offer from October 8–9 including storytelling, dance, choirs, collage workshops, puppetry, arts and crafts.
The weekend looks set to have a distinctly multicultural flavour in keeping with the ethos of the Barefoot community: Families can join in a traditional Ethiopian dance class and devour a fresh batch of Mama Panya’s Pancakes, then work off that jelly at a belly dancing lesson!
Well-loved children’s authors and illustrators including Miriam Latimer, Clare Beaton and Kathryn White will be on hand for storytelling and special workshops, while budding bookworms will relish the chance to explore the exciting new storytelling space.
