York Festival Of Food And Drink
September 16–25
Foodie families will lap up this week-long calendar of gourmet themed events throughout York. There will be plenty of child-friendly events to get young tastebuds tingling including a chocolate factory workshop, primary school cooking lessons and the Generation Cookery Game.

Music In The Park: Sound Power Orchestra
September 18
The autumn season is the perfect time to explore the flora and fauna of Gibside Park in Northumberland. Look out for the rare Red Kite circling the tops of the majestic avenue of oak trees, rich with reds and browns. Once you have explored the grounds, pack a picnic or enjoy a delicious cream tea from the larder whilst you enjoy the grand finale of Music In The Park, a series of al fresco musical concerts.

South Tyneside Fireworks Display
October 6
A spectacular Guy Fawkes’ Night celebration from South Tyneside Council including a dazzling display on the seafront. Pack a flask of hot chocolate, wrap up warm and join in with the ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’!.

Books And Arts Mini Festival
October 8–9
Creative types should take a leisurely stroll around the beautiful estate at Gibside for the opportunity to pick up books, art and pieces by local craftsman who will be on hand to discuss their wares. Local authors will also be giving talks throughout the day.

Medieval Dressing Up
October 23–31
Sort the princes from the paupers at Beeston Castle and Woodland Park, Cheshire with a day of dressing up in medieval finery. Aspiring nobility can try on a knights helmet or royal crown and bring home a photograph to remember the experience of being king for a day.

Sizergh Castle
Now Open
The imposing Sizergh Castle, set in stunning gardens would make the perfect setting for a brisk autumnal stroll. The changing of the seasons is reflected perfectly in the copper rust tones of the Japanese maple collections and golden hues of the many species of dwarf conifer. Bring your binoculars to take in the panoramic views of Morecombe Bay and its resident wildlife.
