Italian childrenswear institution Il Gufo unveiled their SS13 show today, on a South of France themed catwalk, decorated with French herbs . Models opened the show sporting every French mans favourite accessory, the French Stick.
Il Gufo is well-known for their minimalist pallets and very tasteful boy and girlswear offerings and today’s show was a perfect example of where the Italian brands heart and strengths are.
The main colours of the collection, a muted pallet of light shades, soft greys, dessert whites and minty greens were punctuated with bold brights – punchy orange, emerald greens and a pillar box red.
Silhouettes were soft, juxtaposed with structured fabrics and cuts – soft tailored jackets worn with stiff tailored shirts; fitted shorts fashioned with soft jersey tees. Tailoring was undeniably the main pull today, a distressed box shaped jacket with cut-out pockets looked effortless, a navy blue tailored dinner jacket punctuated with orange cuffs looked fresh and current.
The party dress and occasion wear is another of the brands fortes, whilst most Italian brands venture to glamour and glitz, Il Gufo concentrate on convention – summer dresses with pin tuc details and gathered waists. Waistlines accentuated with ribbon ties, and volume created with underskirts.
Despite the French sticks, the occasional nautical tee and French inspired catwalk and music, the clothes looked extremely Italian and very beautiful, more than a French summer revolution.
