BORN 1956

DEFINING MOMENT "Harry was a white dog with black spots, who liked everything except... having a bath. So one day when he heard the water running in the tub, he took the scrubbing brush and buried it in the back garden."

WHY WE LOVE HARRY

  • He's the epitome of the playful pup - a trailblazer for every cheeky canine to follow from Spot and Kipper to the crazy crew in Hairy McLary.
  • Perky ears and a wagging tale has never looked so cute.
  • What toddler wouldn't revel in the idea of getting grubbier and grubbier until he's no longer recognisable. When Dirty Harry (any inspiration for you there, Clint?) reappears in the family garden, his family are none the wiser. "There's a strange dog in the garden... By the way, has anyone seen Harry?"
  • It's a groovy tale with a Happy Days feel, with nostalgic three-colour illustrations (back in the days when it was too costly to print in full-colour!).
