The Junior Design Awards #JDA17 is one of the most esteemed accolades in the family lifestyle award arena, recognised by brands, clients and consumers alike - so it was no mean feat narrowing down these new, emerging and start-up brands.

This award by judged by the Junior editorial team and a host of highly respected judges (who you can read about here) - and by acclaimed knitwear designer and founder of The Bonnie Mob Tracey Samuel.

Tracey untimely oversaw this award, taking the time to really get under the skin of each entry and helping us narrow down who was deserving of these highly recognised awards. She said of judging the Best Fashion Newcomer category:

"I would be looking for a brand or label to offer something new to an already saturated market - it would need to be fresh, contemporary and unique."

We have awarded Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze as we felt this was a strong category and as Junior very much likes to support, encourage and nurture new talent we felt these 4 awards really cemented these new labels as the ones to watch!

What's more the Platinum winner will be invited to London for a special lunch with Tracey from The Bonnie Mob and the Junior editor for a fashion business mentoring session - but we have now decided to extend this to the gold winner also!

So, here we go the ones to watch and the winning brands in the Junior Design Awards Best Fashion Newcomer Category ARE:

THE PLATINUM AWARD FOR BEST FASHION NEWCOMER IS... MABLI

WINNERS Children's Fashion Newcomer Category 2017 | The Junior Design Awards

Launched in October 2016 by a mum of 2 from her home in Wales - British knitwear brand Mabli offers a collection of vintage inspired 100% 'extrafine' Merino Wool clothing and blankets, as well as cotton knee-high socks suitable from birth to six years.

The Mabli collection is the perfect balance of practicality and luxury - built on a concept that in order to appreciate the beauty in anything, it must be seen against it's opposite. So, simple skinny rib jumpers are teamed with chunky textured pants with braces and neutrals get partnered with striking rich brights.

With heavy vintage inspiration it's the timeless, wearable and beautiful current feel that made Mali stand head-and-shoulders above the rest. We believe Mabli will become synonymous for its Cabled Fisherman's Ganseys, bold traditional Welsh patterns and classic stripes.

Junior Judge and knitwear designer Tracey Samuel (from The Bonnie Mob) said "This spoke to my knitwear designer self - I adore the Welsh design and it's so well made. And fantastic branding too."

Fellow judges Gabrielle Spang (from Scandimini) added "Absolutely love this brand! Fantastic knits and designs" and Pearl Lowe (of Petite Pearl Lowe) said "Just gorgeous"
