WHO: Micro Scooters Ltd - Maxi Micro Deluxe

WHAT: This is the Maxi Micro Deluxe taken to the next level with several fine tunings and improvements. Alongside their patented lean-to steer mechanism, sturdy rear brake, soft grip handles and adjustable handlebars, new features include a sleek and stylish anodized stem protecting against wear and tear, a unique, moulded footplate to improve grip and allow an increased weight-limit for riders, meaning that as your child grows, the Maxi Micro will grow with them.

WHY: These scooters didn’t stay still for long as our judges’ children just couldn’t resist a ride about on the floor of our super smooth Junior Design Awards judging space. Watching the enjoyment these kids were getting from whizzing about and expertly steering between tables was the ultimate plaudit for these new improved three wheelers. Our judges said:

The design tweaks on the Maxi Micro Deluxe are fantastic and the extra weight limit means it will last longer meaning less wheels to buy your little speed demo.

It’s hard to think of a time when scooters weren’t a major part of growing up! Love that these scooters are now more robust and long-lasting than ever.

WHO: Le Toy Van - Palace House

WHAT: A luxurious and expansive five story doll’s house that is perfect for children who love to play house on a not so small scale. Gold paint, bay windows and roof gables all lend to the sense of splendour.

WHY: This is the grandest doll’s house or should we say mansion ever designed by Le Toy Van and it’s four floors plus attic room, regal double front door and feature windows would be a Toyland estate agent’s dream! Our judges loved this lavish take on the much loved traditional doll’s house that still retains the Le Toy Van signature naive and hand crafted feel and would look fantastic in a child’s bedroom providing hours of fun and inspiring endless imaginative play. Our judges said:

Fantastic range. classic but beautiful.

WINNER: BRONZE BEST TOY DESIGN (5+ YEARS)

WHO: Toniebox

WHAT: A wifi connected audio box that plays stories when you sit a Tonie on top. Tonies are a range of hand painted storybook figurines, including well-loved characters like the Gruffalo or Little Red Riding Hood, and there are also Creative-Tonies on which you can upload up to 90 minutes of your own content.

WHY: We loved this idea of an interactive story book that children have complete control over, choosing their own story according to the characters they have in their collection and activating the device by placing the character centre stage on top of the Tonie Box. Bringing audio together with a visual and tactile element makes a very exciting experience for children without the need for any screens whatsoever. Our judges also really liked the design of this set. The friendly looking story cube and the beautifully crafted characters would be something you’d be proud to have on display in the home. Our judges said:
