Junior Design Awards 2017 for Best Toy Design (6+ years)
If only all children were born with the ‘I love jigsaws and drawing’ gene. Sadly, not every child likes such quiet and contemplative activities so the next best thing is to find them something that will keep them safely entertained for at least ten minutes with the added bonus of educational and physical benefits…
Lego Friends has the incredible power to absorb children in its miniature world of imagination construction and design for hours. Children get so much satisfaction from successfully building Lego models and once assembled, this Heartlake Pool set provides the perfect backdrop for endless role-play with the much loved Lego Friends characters Emma, Mia, Olivia, Stephanie and Andrea (we didn’t even have to look those names up!).
We particularly liked the in-built aquarium in this pool complex as well as the extremely tempting hot tub. Our judges were very familiar with the brand and praised its ability to stimulate the imagination and encourage construction skills.
Junior Editor Bonita said “My daughter has this and I have to admit while I was building it up with her I was blown away by the design, detail and thought that has gone into every aspect of this pool. I mean who doesn’t love Lego anyway – but this is a whole new level of design for kids aged 6+.”
No parent in the world has ever regretted buying a trampoline for the garden. Not only does a trampoline encourage hours of exercise it can also double up as a secret camp, a stage or just a place to chill out and read.
All the judges were impressed by Plum’s Colours Springsafe trampoline that puts even more fun into trampolining by giving kids a choice of two bright zingy colours to trim them with. All Colours by Plum trampolines are supplied with reversible pads in two colour ways with two sets of foam frame covers so that kids can say goodbye to boring black and dark green trampolines and mix and match with neon brights.
Giving your child a scooter encourages exercise, adventure, a sense of independence and is a great way to develop overall confidence. What could be more exhilarating than the run of the park with the wind in your ears?
We loved the high-vis, metallic rainbow selection of scooters offered by the Maxi Micro Deluxe by Micro Scooter whose Swiss engineered models are renowned for quality, durability and ease of use.
With clever details like a non-slip footplate, an adjustable stem and resilient metal brake, this scooter made the judges feel confident that it was a sturdy and safe piece of kit with endless benefits.
