WHO: The Little Sensory Box
WHAT: Baby’s First Year Subscription - a quarterly series of four baby development play boxes
WHY: Our judges were super impressed with this offering, which is specially tailored to babies throughout their first year. The perfect gift for a newborn, the toys and resources included have all been selected to stimulate a baby's senses from 0-12 months and to encourage interactive play with parents. Our judges felt this would be a great gift for family members who might not be as close to hand as they would like, giving them an easy way to give regular, exciting and useful gifts to a new arrival. The panel were excited by the quality and innovation of the gifts included and felt that they had all been expertly and sensitively chosen. They also agreed that a more edited and useful play box of tried and tested toys would mean families were less likely to buy excessive “stuff” that they didn’t really need.

Such a brilliant idea for anyone who wants to show that they’re thinking about a little one throughout their first year no matter how far apart they are.

I think this one is great for some parents who have no idea where to start with baby toys as there is such an overwhelming amount out there. Would also make a lovely baby gift!

WHY: In a world where you can be anything, be kind, is the essential mantra of this wonderful subscription service that gives children access to joyful books that cover topics like gender stereotyping, racial bias, LGBTQ+ issues and the many different shapes of a modern family. Our judges loved the central ethos of this service and were impressed by the beautiful presentation of each pack. The rainbow ribbon and brightly coloured tissue paper, made these parcels feel like a very special delivery indeed, and the inclusion of reading prompt cards, a book club magazine, collectible journal pages and plastic-free materials for craft activities felt like a lovely added bonus.

I absolutely love the packaging and think teaching kindness is only ever a good thing!

WINNER OF BEST SUBSCRIPTION BOX: SILVER

WHO: Mud & Bloom
WHAT:
A monthly children’s gardening and nature crafts subscription box for 3-8 year olds
WHY:
Our judges really felt that this subscription would be of great value to children, encouraging them outside and helping them to connect with nature. The presentation of the box and contents was exciting and enticing and the sweetly illustrated activity cards were much admired. The fact that every box includes organic seeds to plant as well as an organic peat pellet so that children can start their planting straight away really appealed to the panel, many of whom have keen mini gardeners of their own. The way the packs follow the seasons and educate children about the nature on their own doorsteps in a fun and engaging way really excited our JDA judges who all had high praise for these monthly gift boxes.

Lots of eco points on this one! I love the boxes and I also love that you can make it a sibling box for a few pounds more!

WINNER OF BEST SUBSCRIPTION BOX: BRONZE

WHO: Not Just Nibbles

WHAT: Educational Cookery Kits for Kids
WHY: Anyone with children who claim to be allergic to vegetables will love this subscription service that not only teaches kids how to grow their own veg but how to cook it and make it taste delicious. Not Just Nibbles are all about teaching children the value of good nutritious food and helping them to create a connection between health and the food they eat. Our judges particularly liked the fun food reward charts included in these packs that give kids a great incentive to eat their five a day. With recipes that are delicious, nutritious and anything but boring (hello rainbow dumplings!) the panel felt this was a great way to get kids interested in cooking, nutrition and where their food comes from.
These kits are great and I love all the different packages available and the option of adding a personalised apron to make this a really special gift.
