WHO: Cocoonababy

WHAT: A cocooning portable mattress pod designed to offer a comforting, reassuring, womb-like surrounding through its slightly inclined, semi-foetal cushioning. Created to help limit the onset of some common adaptation difficulties during the first months including reflux, colic and waking with a start, as well as improving overall quality of sleep. Suitable from newborn to approximately 3-months.

WHY: This sleeping pod really impressed our judges who loved how lightweight and super portable it is and how it is cleverly shaped to cradle a baby in a position that takes them back to the womb encouraging a sense of wellbeing and calm. Our judges really felt this portable bed would make any newborn feel cocooned and safe and they loved the added snugness of the safety strap. Comments in praise of the Cocoonababy included:

Sounds great, would definitely try this if I was about to have a baby!
Emma Paton, founder of Finlay Fox
A friend gave me one of these when my son was born and it became an absolute essential for us. My son would lie contented and drift off in the cocoonababy and he definitely slept for longer periods in it than he did in the moses basket or cot.

WHO: The Shnuggle Bath

WHAT: A sturdy but lightweight portable baby bath for 0-12 months inspired by old fashioned tin baths but with a modern and safe update by way of a secure BumBump for baby to nestle into and a back rest to prevent slipping.

WHY: This bath really got the thumbs up from our judges who were very impressed that it lasts for a whole year of bath time. The clever Bumbump design, the generous backrest and the angle of the bath were also praised for helping to make babies feel secure and after a few months giving parents the ability to have both hands free while washing and playing with baby. Our judges said:

Although it’s a lovely ritual, bathtime can often be slippery and stressful so this bath that ensures baby is sitting upright and can’t slide down so that parents can reach for towels, soap and toys is such a great idea.

WHO: Mama Shack Baby Changing Mat

WHAT: A range of UK made, modern baby changing mats featuring cool contemporary prints that can be personalised

WHY: Funny that this absolute baby essential really has been overlooked in terms of style - until now. Our judges loved this selection of cool prints that tap into the nursery décor trends being lapped up on Instagram. Cute flamingos, pineapples, dinosaurs and jungle prints set them apart from the usual perfunctory wipeable mats sold on the hight street and make changing time a little bit more special. Notes from the judges read:

I love these changing mats. They are so fresh and exciting to look at and will make nappy changing much more fun for parents and babies. I especially love the black and white designs which babies are always mesmerised by and the fact that you can personalise them makes them a fantastic gift idea.

WHO: Vital Baby NURTURE™ pro UV steriliser & dryer

WHAT: A steriliser that uses the latest ultraviolet LED technology to safely kill 99.9% of bacteria, mould and viruses. It dry-disinfects without the need for chemicals, heat, steam or sterilising solution, giving parents extra peace of mind. The highly reflective stainless steel interior allows UV light to bounce around ensuring that all areas are fully sterilised.

WHY: This is such an amazing innovation and does away with any bubbling hot water or dangerous bursts of steam that can be associated with regular sterilisers. Our panel was hugely impressed that this zero water steriliser not only cleans bottles, soothers and dummies but can even sterilise a mobile phone. It’s square shape also means that it sits easily on the kitchen counter and can accommodate everything from bottles to toys. Another fact that got our judges excited was that this machine only takes 11 minutes to take full effect meaning less electricity used and speedier sterilising when you really need that bottle in a hurry. Our judges said:

This is such a great idea and it would remain a key household gadget way after your baby has stopped bottle feeding. Being able to sterilise dummies, toys and tech devices is so useful - and it dries them too!
Bonita Turner, Editor of Junior
I was always opening my steriliser too soon or burning myself on the hot water in just sterilized bottles and lids. This would definitely put an end to that. Brilliant idea!
