We've put this year's entries through their paces to decide who should be awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze...

THE GOLD AWARD FOR BEST LIGHTWEIGHT BUGGY DESIGN... MEE-GO TRIO

If Mary Poppins pulled a Trio buggy out of her carpet bag we'd be impressed but we wouldn't be surprised. That's because we've seen how incredibly compact a Mee-go Trio is when it's folded down. It is amazing!

This buggy is suitable from birth, weighs just 7kgs and can be collapsed with one hand in into a neat cabin size package. Mee-go also sells a sturdy carry-on bag so that you can carry the buggy with total ease in between wheeling it about.

It might be lightweight and tiny in its folded form but this buggy has all the high quality fixtures that you would expect of any pushchair so there's no compromise on practicality and baby's comfort. Perfect for people who don't have much storage space at home or who just love to travel this buggy had everyone's vote.

THE SILVER AWARD FOR BEST LIGHTWEIGHT BUGGY DESIGN... MOTHERCARE AMBLE

Mothercare's Amble has the refreshingly simple aim to be comfortable and convenient. We think this buggy goes way beyond that brief and our judges were extremely impressed with its lightweight feel that you could easily manoeuvre with one hand, its generous shopping basket and stylish hood and seat covers.

The easy to fold and go mechanism is literally foolproof so almost anyone can get to grips with it without a tutorial (we're thinking granny and grandpa here). Unusually for a super lightweight buggy, this one can also be adapted to carry a carseat making it a super versatile and extremely reasonably priced travel system,

Junior Design Award Judge Lisa Mehydene of Edit 58 said, "This is my favourite design by far. Simple, lightweight and functional."

THE BRONZE AWARD FOR BEST LIGHTWEIGHT BUGGY DESIGN... CHICCO OHLALA

Weighing in at just 3.8kg the Chicco OhLaLa pushchair is the featherweight of buggies. Perfect for anyone who likes to travel super light but inevitably has their hands full, it can be folded down one handed into an extremely compact and portable shape.

We love the fact that it comes with a handy shoulder strap so you can easily fold and go whenever you want to. Add to this a spacious shopping basket (we like those too), a deep rain hood and a fully reclining back rest and this truly is a case of Oh la la!
