Was the reaction from so many of our judges when they encountered this refreshing book that subverts so many of the nursery rhyme tropes and clichés that have inveigled themselves into our psyche thus far! This collection of witty reworkings of classic nursery rhymes, given a fresh and feminist twist really made us laugh and then think! Wit, humour and seriously gorgeous illustrations with a lovely inclusive feel make this a book that works on so many levels and will give children plenty to laugh about and adults a wry smile. A beautifully presented book that would make a wonderful gift.

WHY: Our panel were really drawn to this beautifully designed cookery book which has a lovely retro, pre-digital feel while still sizzling with excitement for kids! The mouth-watering illustrations of jam roly-polies, Rainbow layer cakes and pretzels were perfect for bringing all these yummy dishes to life and the step by step, illustrated instructions were clear, concise and easy to read.

WHY: All our judges felt that this was a showstopper of a book that would make a fabulous and very special gift. The stunning illustrations and fascinating facts about famous magicians and their dare devil acts, will captivate children who are drawn in by the mystery of magic and the well laid out pages full of design drama and colour ,will keep kids who love facts and detail, entertained for hours. A beautiful book that the whole panel was excited by.
