Junior Design Awards 2017 for Best Children’s Occasionwear Collection
Who doesn’t like to get dressed up for a party? We rifled through rails of sequins, tulle and organza to whittle down our fabulous occasionwear entries to just three worthy winners.
It was a very tough job but our criteria was simple – elegant design, beautiful fabrics and a ‘special’ feel that took it from everyday to stand-out styles.
THE GOLD AWARD FOR BEST CHILDREN’S OCCASIONWEAR BRAND… TUTU DU MONDE
The standout creations of Andrea Rembeck, the designer behind the label Tutu du Monde had us all spellbound.
Her ethereal, fairy like dresses and accessories crafted from tulle and silk organza with vintage inspired detailing and theatrical flourishes are a magical conduit back to childhood fantasies of rummaging through dressing up trunks full of gossamer gowns and treasures fit for the most tasteful of princesses.
Perfect for bohemian bridesmaids and girls who really want the extra ‘twirl’ factor, the judges felt these dresses put imagination, attention to detail and the pure joy of dressing up to the fore.
With nothing quite comparable on the market this label had to win gold.
Our Junior Design Judge Natalie Lee founder of Style Me Sunday said, “This is a new brand to me – my two girls would just love it!”
And, super stylist Sarah Clark (of Little Spree) added:
“Occasionwear for children is a tricky balance to strike – but I love Tutu du Monde. Being more low-key myself I would style my daughter in one of its tutu’s but play it down with a vest, knitted tights and pumps.”
THE SILVER AWARD FOR BEST CHILDREN’S OCCASIONWEAR BRAND… RACHEL RILEY
Not just for chubby cheeked babies with a penchant for vintage, Rachel Riley offers an amazingly wide selection of occasionwear for tiny tots to occasionally testing teens.
With dresses that range from outright adorable to elegant and flattering, Rachel really does have something to suit every taste.
Judges loved the classic puffed-sleeved party dresses featuring on-trend butterflies, swans and floral prints and were in strong agreement that the cut of all the dresses and the quality of the fabric was second to none.
Our judge Pearl Lowe told us “When the kids were growing up I loved all the classic, traditional design from the likes of Bonpoint, Caramel and of course Rachel Riley – oh, how I loved dressing the kids when they were small!”
THE BRONZE AWARD FOR BEST CHILDREN’S OCCASIONWEAR BRAND… MONSOON CHILDREN
With every piece of party kit imaginable for boys and girls Monsoon is a one-stop shop for everything occasion wear related.
This season’s entries had our panel of judges in raptures over the heavy duchess satin dresses and intricate hand finished beading.
With everything from classic to full on frou frou at accessible prices, Monsoon could not be a more worthy Junior Design Award winner.
Junior Editor Bonita said,
“I’m so pleased to see Monsoon in the winning line-up – they continue year-on-year to deliver beautiful pieces at affordable prices that I spot endlessly at weddings and parties.
“Plus, the boys collection is smart without being stuffy and a little fun too with printed linings in the jackets and waistcoats.”
