Best Children's Knitwear Collection | Junior Design Awards 2018

WHAT: A high quality, vintage inspired brand who’s ethical production values are intrinsic to its identity. Designed in Wales for ages 0 – 12 yrs

WHY: The love in the Junior judging room was off the charts for Mabli and as last year’s clear winners of Best Fashion Newcomer we are thrilled that they have come back to receive the same ranking in Best Knitwear in 2018. Yet again we will leave it to our effusive judge’s comments to sum up why this brand is pick of the knits. “Love the branding. Love the packaging. So sophisticated and delicate and minimal.” Donna Wilson, award winning textiles designer. “Amazing quality, beautiful designs (and patterns!) and gorgeous colours. Love Mabli Knitwear.” was what Gabrielle Spang, founder of Scandi Mini had to say.

“I am besotted with this brand. The handfeel and quality is incredible. The designs are classic. I would have another baby just to be able to buy this brand.” Gemma Metcalfe-Beckers, founder of The Mutha.Hood and finally, “Obsessed! Love everything about this collection from the design, colour palette to the quality and branding. Can’t wait to buy lots of pieces for my baby daughter.” said Holly Anna Scarsella, founder of Pampelone clothing

WHAT: Unique, traditional baby wear, handmade from crocheted cotton with an emphasis on sustainability and heirloom products that can be passed through the family.

WHY: Everyone was cooing over the tiniest pair of hand knitted booties that Gooseberry Fool submitted as part of their entry to the JDA’s and were equally smitten with the incredible craftsmanship that went into each beautifully stitched  garment. The story behind the brand also touched our judges deeply – the business came about when the designer Rachel Campbell lost her much loved mum and took solace in crochet. Extra points may have been awarded for the inclusion of a quote from Anne of Green Gables on the Gooseberry Fool website.

Our judges commented: “Lovely colours and designs. The booties are the cutest!” Gabrielle Spang, founder of Scandi Mini“Beautifully skilled, handcrafted garments and lovely for gifting.” was what Gemma Metcalfe-Beckers, founder of The Mutha.Hood said. “The brand story here is just lovely and would make me buy it alone! Very cute.” came from Holly Anna Scarsella, creator of Pampelone.
