Best Children’s Eco Fashion Brand | Junior Design Awards 2021
Eco fashion for children is about so much more than sustainable fabrics - it's about the production, manufacturing and processing behind the label. These are all important factors when it comes to crowning the JDA winners...
WINNER OF BEST CHILDREN’S ECO FASHION BRAND: GOLD
WHO: Smalls Merino
WHAT: Smalls Merino Essential Kid Collection
WHY: These beautifully made merino wool separates that provide a fine, snuggly base layer in winter and keep kids cool when it’s hot are not only wonderfully soft to wear but they are an extremely sound eco-conscious choice. Our judges were excited to learn that Merino Smalls, takes their responsibility to the planet very seriously and ensure they have a 100% traceable supply and production chain which means they can track the path of their garments right from farm to shop floor, ensuring not only farming and animal welfare standards are met but that the quality of their wool is superb. Unlike many alternative materials, the processing of the wool itself is incredibly low impact on the surrounding environment and waterways, and all the elements used in their garments are biodegradable right down to the swing tag. As Merino needs less washing, that’s another bonus for the environment and as Merino Smalls say, for parents too! These garments are also designed with at least two years growth in them so they last longer before they are handed down the next lucky recipient! Bravo!
These premium quality garments are so much more than just skin loving base layers – the care that the founders put into making sure that they are as planet friendly as possible is exemplary.
Love these beautifully designed comfy casuals. Gorgeous colours - wouldn’t want to take my baby out of it :)
Lovely neutral colour palette and exquisite quality.
Just the softest layers ever! And the colours are perfection. I think my children would live in these. And I’d be quite happy for them to do so!

WHO: Möm(e)
WHAT: Möm(e)´s SS21 Collection 'a.v.ó' - chapter I
WHY: Our judges loved this Portuguese brand, which features beautifully cut, simple silhouettes, muted shades and the softest fabrics. As well as being the kind of clothes they would like to dress their own children in, the panel were incredibly warmed by Möm(e)'s central ethos, which is built on the pure love of children and the desire to preserve the world for their future’s sake. The decision to commission artisans and experienced seamstresses who have generations of knowledge at their fingertips, to create limited collections that disrupt fast fashion and to use eco-friendly materials all stem from the founder’s belief that the deep love we feel for our children should translate into every choice we make. Wonderful.

WHO: Dinki Human
WHAT: A family run organic, unisex, sustainable kids clothing brand
WHY: So many judges commented on the brilliant name of this brand that doubles up as an excellent slogan and describes exactly who their target audience are! As well as making cool, stylish clothes that look perfect for playing in, Dinki Human take their eco-responsibilities very seriously and the whole range is made from 100% GOTS certified organic cotton, using only OEKO TEX standard inks and dyes. For our panel, one of the most exciting initiatives the brand has introduced is a pre-loved scheme, allowing customers to return Dinki pieces once they're finished with them, in exchange for a discount, and with the promise that Dinki Human will re-sell, re-purpose, donate or recycle that item. Excellent work!
