Junior Design Awards 2017 for Best Children’s Eco Fashion Brand
When global warming, pollution and poor working conditions are hitting the headlines on a regular basis it’s uplifting to know there are many brands out there who put ethical practices and sustainability at the top of their agendas.
At Junior we are thrilled to recognise these green-hearted businesses, celebrate their excellence in design and reward them for their ethical standards.
THE PLATINUM AWARD FOR BEST ECO FASHION BRAND… PIUPIA
Piupia was founded by graphic designer Claudia Carvalho who inherited a love a clothing design and manufacture from her family who have their own factory based in Portugal.
The brand was launched in 2013 after the birth of Claudia’s son and is committed to using organic, eco-friendly and locally sourced materials.
The Piupia collection was a huge hit with our judges who loved the cool palette, simple cuts, hand-drawn graphics and pared-back aesthetic.
With clothing from 3 months to 4 years, this is one of those brands that parents will be sad to leave behind when their little ones hit 5.
Our judge Gabrielle Spang founder of Scandi Mini said, “Great colours, love their designs and their simplicity.”
THE GOLD AWARD FOR BEST ECO FASHION BRAND… HOITY-TOITY
Proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that green doesn’t mean you have to compromise on style, Hoity Toity, the self-proclaimed label for precious little madams, is a brand that will please the fussiest customers in every sense.
Featuring delicately hand-painted floral prints that conjure up images of rural idyls and classic silhouettes that give a pleasing retro nod, these clothes stand out from the crowd and definitely live up to their luxury organic status.
With a design ethos that encompasses a wholly ecological approach to fashion, all hand-crafted in the UK, their green credentials are impeccable.
Having previously won a ‘Highly Commended’ Junior Design Award in 2015 followed by ‘Bronze’ in 2016 this label goes from strength-to-strength and we are delighted to award them ‘Gold’ in 2017.
As Zoe de Pass at Dress Like a Mum stated, “Hoity Toity love the designs – they get my vote!”
THE SILVER AWARD FOR BEST ECO FASHION BRAND… PICCALILLY
This British organic clothing brand has serious green credentials. Piccalilly specialise in creating gorgeous baby and kids clothes using skin friendly, chemical-free hand-picked organic cotton sourced through Chetna Organic, with a fully transparent supply chain from field through to factory.
Chetna farmers also own a 10% share of the factory ensuring they receive maximum return for their cotton supply.
On the design side, this is a company who put function and form on equal pedestals, making sure their clothes and muslins are as gorgeous as they are practical.
Judges loved the cute prints and intelligent design features including the reversible garments and fold-over foot cuffs to keep toes snuggly when needed.
Junior Editor Bonita commented: “This range is so incredibly well thought through from the sourcing of the organic cotton to the fantastic eye-catching prints. We huge fans here at Junior.”
THE BRONZE AWARD FOR BEST ECO FASHION BRAND… DOODLE-DO
We love the quirky vision of Doodle-Do who make the most gorgeous gender neutral knitted separates that are perfect for playing in and can be worn alone as statement pieces or layered up in style.
As well as being stunning to look at, every step of this company’s manufacturing process meets the standard for Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certification and fulfils Doodle Do’s pledge to teach children to be good stewards of the environment from the moment they get dressed.
