WHY: When children go through loss it can be a bewildering time for both them and the adults around them. Our judges felt that this journal would really help support families going through loss and give children some vital tools for navigating through grief as well as helping their carers to feel that they were doing something positive to help. The grief journal has been put together with great thought and sensitivity and our judges commended it for being a gentle, nurturing book that could really help a child processing loss.

We love this idea and how it's been designed. Clean and simple.

This is such an important concept - I really love this book and it’s potential to help children through grief.

Covid and all its heartbreaking loss was one of the factors that inspired Nima Patel to create this book. A much needed resource for children and families.

WINNER OF BEST CHILDRENS BOOK 6+: SILVER

WHO: Usborne
WHAT: Harklights by Tim Tilley

WHY: This beautifully presented book really touched our judges who loved the magical fairy tale feel written in a contemporary voice with a strong sense of adventure and mystery. Themes around preserving nature, loyalty and kindness were picked up on by our judges who also loved the shadow puppet style illustrations throughout that helped bring the whole book to life. The JDA panel felt this was a fantastic read for children of around 7-8 years old and would be perfect for boys and girls who love a fast pace and lots of cliff-hangers.

WHO: Agnes & Aubrey
WHAT: Take Me Home: An Activity Journal For Young Explorers

WHY: This latest addition to Agnes & Aubrey’s series of guided journals really excited our judges who loved the stylish, yet clear and readable design paired with original and inspiring content. This book encourages children to explore the place they live and gives plenty of scope for activity and thought with facts and activities for kids to pour over. Our panel felt it would appeal to kids who are particularly interested in architecture and design. Amazing that the concept for this book came about in 2019 pre-pandemic!

Such a simple idea but I can imagine my almost 7-year-old daughter would love this!
Charlotte Kewley, Children’s Stylist and mother of three
Perfect for a rainy day at home when you want to inspire your kids to use their imaginations and stay off those screens. My daughter is a big fan of these books (as am I).
