Junior Design Awards 2017 for Best Baby/Pre-schooler Book (aged 0-4yrs)

Here at Junior we have a massive love for a well-designed book - but it can't only be judged by its (beautiful) cover. Any book that passes the #juniorbookclub seal of approval has to offer something to its little reader - whether that is learning, discovering or sparking some imagination - every book ends to be engaging, original and of course, pleasing to the eye.

THE PLATINUM AWARD FOR BEST BABY/PRE-SCHOOLER BOOK (AGE 0-4YRS)... First Baby Days On the Move

29808

Pat-a-Cake First Baby Days: On the Move: This pull-tab board book illustrated by Mojca Dolinar was developed in consultation with a child-development expert to help stimulate a baby’s rapidly developing eyesight. It's bright, fun and easy to use, helping your baby to focus.

The high-contrast colours grab a little one’s attention and the double pull-out tabs encourage them to track their eyes across the pages. Babies are able to react to simple patterns and contrasting colours a few weeks after being born, and as their eyes develop, they begin to track objects and scan for things to look at.

There was many ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ to be heard when the judges flicked through the pages, pulled on the double-tabs and everyone agreed the adorable artwork was 'top notch.'

Junior Editor Bonita added: "This high contrast book is a thing of beauty as well as being the perfect introduction into what will - hopefully - become a lifetime of reading beautifully designed and curated books. No baby's bookshelf should be without this."

THE GOLD AWARD FOR BEST BABY/PRE-SCHOOLER BOOK (AGE 0-4YRS)... MILES & MIA

29809

Born out of a love of stories, siblings Miles and Mia are the inspiration for the Miles & Mia collective of tales written by their mum Michaela Alexander, based on their real life adventures of growing up in London.

Published in 2016, this is the first instalment. The A to Z is an educational, rhyming, picture book featuring colourful illustrations and teaches children different letters of the alphabet in a fun way. With Miles & Mia’s take on the traditional ABC with a twist - inclusions of ‘A’ is for afro hair to ‘Z’ is for Zephyrosaurus’ (pronounced “ze-fear-a-saw-ross”), this book offers a diverse representation for children to see characters of different races. It teaches them to see that we are all the same and to be proud of who they are.

Michaela is passionate about her mission that children like to find characters like themselves in books and in the media and it can have a positive impact on the level of confidence and self worth they develop.
