Karl Lagerfeld to launch kids fashion collection
The fashion maven finally confirms the rumours that he will be designing a childrenswear collection
We have been excited by rumours of a Karl Lagerfeld kids fashion collection for years (see image below). The notoriously 'shady' designer has been keeping us on the edge of our seats by sending mini versions of his collections down his catwalks. Hudson Kroenig, Lagerfeld's godson (above on the Chanel catwalk with Cara Delevigne and Lagerfeld), has appeared on the catwalk in various 'oh-so-chic' outfits.
But, today the news has finally been confirmed. Karl Lagerfeld will design a childrenswear collection operated under his eponymous adult line in collaboration with children's fashion licensing business, CWF (Children's Worldwide Fashion). CWF already partner with designer houses including Burberry, Chloe and Marc Jacobs on their respective childrenswear lines.
The statement from the Karl Lagerfeld brand was given:
The announcement reflects the brand's ongoing commitment to newness and will allow Karl Lagerfeld to share its ironic, playful, creative vision to a young audience; The Karl Lagerfeld Kidswear collection presents a unique opportunity to share our cool, ironic, iconic DNA with a wider Karl Lagerfeld audience. Due to our brand's wide appeal our expansion into the juniors market is a natural fit to further enhance our reach.
The kids collection will not be revealed until Spring 2016, and will comprise ready-to-wear and accessories for newborn to 16-year-old boys and girls.
The designer has given a sneak peek of what to expect, by releasing the illustration above.
