Where? Havana.

Why go there? It’s a vibrant city steeped in history with stunning architecture, great music and kicking cocktails.

Children will love... The lively streets have a carnival atmosphere and puppet theatres. There are also beaches and the chance to see dolphins at the Dolphinarium.

Parents will love... To follow in Hemingway’s footsteps, enjoying a mojito in the city’s coolest bars or a fishing trip from the village of Cojimar. You can also see the Tropicana cabaret show or have a rumba or salsa lesson.

Stay at… The Paradisus Rio De Oro Varadero has super children’s clubs, while Meliá Cayo Guillermo has fabulous ocean views and a great spa. Stay at both as part of a luxury tour with Esencia Experiences, who customise itineraries to suit families. Seven nights from £4,995 for a family of four, including flights and accommodation but not excursions.
