Best UK Fashion Newcomer | Junior Design Awards 2019

WHO: anyware kids

WHAT: A premium quality brand, born from the desire to address the overproduction and overconsumption of kid’s fashion and to create clothes that you can wear and love for longer. This was the starting point for singer/songwriter Jessie Ware and designer George Reddings who set about creating their dream collection of fun yet pared back, unisex kid’s clothes that grow as your child grows, with drawstrings, roll up sleeves and legs, waistbands that synch in and out and fully adjustable straps for the perfect fit year after year.

WHY: This brand got so much love from our judges and the JDA19 comments book was full of enthusiastic praise. We’ll leave it to our panel to tell you why this brand couldn’t have won anything less than Platinum:

Love this brand!!! It’s a sustainable brand, the fabric is absolutely amazing and the clothes grow with your child! How beautiful is that?
Aly founder of Allmumstalk
Love the concept that you can wear then on different ways at different sizes. So they last.
Clemmie Telford, influencer and founder of Mother of All Lists
LOVED this brand, from the product to the packaging and colour palette! Really modern and contemporary with a traditional twist.
Frances Quinn, Great British Bake off winner and cookery author
Very cool collection. Love this brand and what it stands for.
Gabrielle Spang, founder of concept store Scandimini
I can’t stop looking at the detail of this brand. Absolutely stunning fabrics and colours with detail that just keeps on giving.
Gemma Metcalfe, founder of female empowering lifestyle store Mutha.Hood
I adore this brand – clothes that are built to last – unisex, comfortable designs that can be passed down through your children. I just wish they made adult sizes!
Hollie de Cruz, hypnobirthing expert, author and creator of YESMUM positive affirmation cards.

WHO: Small Stories

WHAT: A unique collection of timeless, ethically produced, artistically inspired clothing for kids aged 0-7 years. Launched just 9 months prior to the JDA19 judging days, this brand is ethically produced in a family run factory in Portugal using Oeko Tex Standard100 fabrics and already has a dedicated fan base The clothes have a fresh and playful feel which is enhanced by their use of hand-drawn illustration prints from UK artists.

WHY: Our judges loved the light and quirky feel of these gorgeous pieces that stand out from the crowd while still allowing children to be children in clothes that are comfortable and practical for every day adventures. The hand drawn painterly prints give these pieces real personality and are perfect for capturing little imaginations. Our JDA19 panel was really excited about this brand and said in their notes:

Prints that stand out without being twee. Playful and great quality garments.
Gemma Metcalfe founder of female empowering lifestyle store Mutha.Hood
I absolutely loved this collection. The choice of colour combinations and the hand-drawn feel of the prints makes it feel so fresh and lively. The palm tree and fish print is an absolute favourite.
