JUNIOR DESIGN AWARDS 2020 GOLD WINNER: Best Children’s Swimwear / Eco Swimwear Collection
WHO: Canopea
WHAT: A French sun-protective swimwear brand for children, made in Europe from recycled fiber and certified UPF50+
WHY: This swimwear brand is outstanding on so many levels and our judges were incredibly impressed with its amazing quality, chic, simple designs and commitment to being as environmentally responsible as possible. With skin cancers on the rise and marine life being threatened by sun cream, Canopea’s in-built UPF50+ protection provides a very important alternative to coating children’s bodies in creams and the recycled yarn used to make the costumes saves on water and energy as well preventing plastics entering the ocean and landfill. Our judges loved the sleek simple styles inspired by 1930’s fashion and loved the stunning editorial shoots commissioned by the brand.

JUNIOR DESIGN AWARDS 2020 SILVER WINNER: Best Children’s Swimwear / Eco Swimwear Collection
WHO: Bonbon Swim
WHAT: A sustainable swimwear brand that has a fun but classic feel made with protective and sustainable UPF 50+, oeko-tex and GRS certified fabrics. For ages 6 months – 5 years.
WHY: The charming prints and double faced fabrics in this swimwear collection really impressed our judges who loved the simple but pretty details – think ruffles and single tie bows – and the well fitting, high quality feel of the pieces. The brand’s dedication to being eco-efficient was evident in their commitment to well treated staff, the use of eco-friendly, organic, recycled and dead stock fabrics for production and biodegradable and/or recycled polybags and packaging that are perfect as reusable beach pouches.

JUNIOR DESIGN AWARDS 2020 JOINT BRONZE WINNER: Best Children’s Swimwear / Eco Swimwear Collection
WHO: Lison Paris
WHAT: A luxury swimwear brand for children that takes its inspiration from couture swimwear.
WHY: Our judges felt these Parisian bikinis and swimming costumes made by two sisters, were absolutely stunning and loved the attention to detail, the beautiful prints and the technically excellent construction. Each piece feels like a personal creation and there was a sense that this was a very special brand built on true passion and skill. A cotton frilled bikini with embroidery was remarked on time and time again, as was the brand’s commitment to eco-friendly production and packaging. All plastic bags from the warehouse to the customer are made from biodegradable corn starch bags, and many of the brand’s bestsellers are made from 80% recycled fibres made from abandoned fishing nets.

JUNIOR DESIGN AWARDS 2020 JOINT BRONZE WINNER: Best Children’s Swimwear / Eco Swimwear Collection
WHO: MINI A TURE
WHAT: A children’s swimwear collection created entirely from ocean derived plastics (repurposed REPREVE polyester) offering full UV50 sun protection.
WHY: Our panel was very impressed by the excellent quality of this collection and the use of hand-drawn prints reflective of Scandinavian nature in the brand’s signature colour palette. The judges were excited to learn that every piece in this collection is constructed entirely from REPREVE polyester meaning that each garment essentially removes wasteful plastic from nature and our oceans, bringing it back in circulation to serve a new purpose. A stylish, technically excellent collection to be proud of with strong eco-credentials.
