Children can see the goats being milked, tend to the hens and get close to the Shetland ponies on Farmer John’s special tour during a stay at The Dandelion Hideaway at Osbaston House Farm in Warwickshire. You can stay in one of five luxury self-catering Canvas Cottages that resemble plush tents, each with three bedrooms that sleep up to six and featuring everything from a fully-equipped kitchen to a roll-top bath and log-burning fire. Meanwhile, the Discovery Trunk contains all little explorers need to enjoy the surrounding five acres of countryside, such as binoculars and magnifying glass. It costs from £609 for a week in June.

See English Holidays for lots more places to stay close to home, and read our features Happy Campers and Cool Campsites for more great places to stay under canvas.
