Postcard from... Amsterdam

Where? The cosmopolitan capital of The Netherlands.

Why go there? It’s a picturesque place with pretty open spaces and more museums to educate and entertain per square mile than any other city in the world.

Children will love... Just getting around the city is pure fun – from riding on a canal barge to hiring a bike to scoot around on. The fantastic interactive Nemo Science Center also answers many a question that has puzzled a parent, such as what exactly is electricity?

Parents will love... The many museums that are a cultural treat, offering an insight into anything from Van Gogh to Heineken. The pretty Vondelpark, the largest park in Amsterdam, is also a great place for a family picnic.

Stay at… Canal House is a lovely hotel comprising three 17th-century merchant’s houses. It also has a garden for al fresco dining. From €300 per night for a family of four, including B&B. Visit www.canalhouse.nl
