Five great destinations for a White Christmas
Whether it's super-soft snow, soothing sands, or white-water rafting, you can have yourself a white Christmas with these fantastic festive breaks
Isles of Scilly
OK, so if it was a Flying Sleigh Club, it might feel a bit more appropriate, but the festive offering at this unusual venue is refreshingly different. Named after the flying boats that flew from Tresco during World War I, the site is now a development of 12 stunning New England-style beachfront houses. Overlooking the empty white beaches of the Isles of Scilly, brushed by the frothy waves of the icy Atlantic, they offer an enchanting Christmas hideaway. If not dusted in snow, the beaches of Bryher and Tresco islands will be their usual sparkling white, banked with dunes and winter flowers.
The plush, relaxing houses sleep either eight or six and rental includes membership of the Club’s fabulous facilities, which include swimming, pool, gym, treatment rooms and tennis courts. There’s also a restaurant and a bar with a cosy log fire and a spectacular view across New Grimbsy Harbour. Entry to Tresco’s beautiful Abbey Gardens is included, too.
Christmas rates are from £1,600 per cottage (sleeping six) for seven nights, including a seasonal hamper, decorated Christmas tree, linen, towels, log supply, full Club membership and entrance to the Abbey Gardens. Tel: 01720 422849 or visit www.tresco.co.uk/stay/flying-boat-club
