Winner of the Best Family Day Out: Legoland Windsor
For thrills and spills, and more Lego bricks than you can shake a Star Wars light sabre at, head to Legoland, Windsor
You don’t have to be crazy about the iconic brick brand to love Legoland, but it helps. The best thing about the theme park – apart from the ubiquitous bricks themselves, which you’ll find at every corner, and the eye-boggling array of memorabilia at the Big Shop – is the excellent offering for the preschool set, from the interactive Duplo Gardens play area to fairytale theatre shows and a raft of gentler rides. Those seeking white knuckle(ish) thrills can be turned, churned and drenched on the Vikings’ River Splash, The Dragon roller- coaster, or Pirate Falls, or take a more leisurely submarine ride around the watery world of Atlantis. The latest addition to the 55 attractions on offer is the indoor Star Wars Miniland Experience, and a mini figure homage to the Queen, who’ll appear on the balcony of mini Buckingham Palace, complete with real jewelled crown and benevolent royal wave to the crowd. You’ll be hard pushed to see it all in a day – but there’s a perfect solution. Ta-dah! The brand-new Legoland Hotel, where you can literally eat, drink and sleep Lego.
