Western & Oriental were Highly Commended in our category for Best Family Tour Operator. General manager Matthew Rushbrooke selects his top family trips
What are your three family holiday hotspots and why?
They would have to be Greece (including the Greek Islands), Portugal and Cyprus. All three of these destinations offer beautiful coastal scenery, child-friendly beaches, a range of outdoor experiences and an abundance of family friendly accommodation options – and all just a short flight from home.
Which children’s activities should not be missed at the resorts you work with?
The Porto Elounda Deluxe Resort in Crete runs a great parent and child fishing trip where you can take to the open seas and try and catch a big fish using a simple hook. Sports academies are offered by a range of resorts including Aphrodite Hills Resort in Cyprus, the Martinhal in Portugal and Forte Village in Sardinia. Children can get expert tuition in sports such as football, golf and tennis. Head to Greece’s Costa Navarino in July and August and you can watch the turtles hatch on the beach – an unforgettable experience whatever your age. Budding culinary enthusiasts will love taking part in a holiday cooking classes, available at resorts including Daois Cove in Crete and Le Meridien Limassol in Cyprus.
What are your must-have items to pack in a suitcase when travelling as a family?
Be sure to take sun cream and a sun hat, plus tissues and anti-bacterial wipes. For entertainment on the flight, pack some lightweight toys and games. We've put together a downloadable W&Onderful Holiday Playbook that's full of great ideas to keep your young traveller busy.
