The Borgo Egnazia, Puglia, Italy

Like a gleaming palace amid the rugged Apulian countryside, Borgo Egnazia already rates highly in the glamour stakes, but its romantic allure has surely been further enhanced by the fact that it played host to the A-list nuptials of Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel last summer.

Exuding effortless elegance, utmost luxury is at the heart of the experience at this family-friendly resort. There’s a choice of chic accommodation, either at the boutique hotel – which is all creamy, dreamy whites and taupe – or in a townhouse within the piazza. The ultimate abodes – doubtless favoured by JT and co – are the super-luxe private villas, with all mod cons and private swimming pools.

The biggest pull for families is the excellent children’s club that caters from eight months to teens, with an exciting mix of activities all set in a state-of-the-art environment with a walled secret garden and a mini amphitheatre that is home to an outdoor cinema for early evening movie nights under the stars.

Those with a culinary bent can also learn the art of traditional Italian cuisine, learning how to make delicious home-made pizza and orecchiette, the cute pasta “ears” that the region is famed for.
