Best Children's Backpack Design | Junior Design Awards 2018

WHAT: A playful collection of brightly coloured children's backpacks from Tokyo sold with fun stickers for kids to design their own bag with personality. Elie & Hero are hoping to bridge the "Harajuku" community between Tokyo and the UK.

WHY: Our judges loved this roomy backpack which comes with its own set of stylish stickers which children can play around with to personalise their bag and reflect their own style. This wasn't lost on the mini-judges. Mini fashion model and influencer Harlow Luna White (and her mum Chelsea) said "Harlow loves this so much especially the stickers which you can add." This was echoed by fellow mini-fashion influencer Fleur Isted from the Isted Kids "Because you can make your own designs on them. I love them!"  We're so pleased this debut bag collection has scooped Platinum in this year's Junior Design Awards.

WHAT: A new collection of backpacks from Petit Monkey with gorgeous animal print designs that are all made of rPET (recycled PET bottles), the message ' It's a small planet so recycle. If we can save our planet we can also save our animals."

WHY: These bags were a resounding success with our small judges. Featuring prints of more unusual animals like Leopards, Geckos and wolves, depicted doing what they would do in their natural habitats, this collection of recycled back packs appeals to both boys and girls. Top child model and mini influencer  Farouk James said "Very on trend and great way to save the planet." while vlogging siblings Amazing Arabralla and JD The Kid both agreed they "Love it - what an awesome idea!"  Fancy Nancy and her mum Fern added "We love the prints!"

WHAT: Zip and Zoe are a super-cool range of kid's backpacks that are perfect for school, play and big adventures, The original characters were designed in collaboration with New York artist Matthew Langille (work includes Marc Jacobs and Adidas) and Babymel London.

WHY: Starring the monochrome characters Zip and Zoe, set against multi-coloured illustrated prints, these stylish, functional backpacks include story booklets to transport kids on magical adventures, boast fun key rings and squeeze me tags on the bags and come in three age ranges suitable for kids from 1 - 9yrs. Our Editor Bonita Turner said "As a big fan of Zip & Zoe, my daughter loves her backpack and Zoe keyring and won't leave the house without it fully packed with her favourite toys!"  Mini-judge Fancy Nancy was also impressed and said "Cool, quirky & vibrant! Also very well made and a reasonable price!"

WHAT: MadPax 3D backpacks and accessories mix funky with function creating fun tactile products that kids love

WHY: Madpax backpacks have all the pouches, pockets and capacity you would expect from a backpack and are highly durable but made to be eye-catching fashion pieces in their own right. This range was a huge hit with all the kids on our judging day who were incredibly drawn to those signature spikes and unusually, teens to tinies were equally impressed. Teenage You Tube star, Amazing Arabella  said "Well made and cool designs and patterns"  while our youngest mini-judge Fancy Nancy (who at aged 4 was judging with her mum Fern) said "A fun, fashionable backpack that stands out from the rest! Super cool!" The kids sure know what they like!
