Top holiday villas

Sharing a villa with a gang of family and friends is a wonderful way to pass some downtime together, and spread the cost…

Home from home, extra space to spread out, a kitchen so you can handle night-time feeds or easily fix an early-rising toddler’s breakfast, your own pool so you don’t have to worry about anyone bagging the best sunloungers… Add to that maids, chefs, babysitting if you want it –  there’s lots to love about a villa holiday.

There are lots of beautiful villas in Tuscany that can accommodate sizeable groups and Abercrombie & Kent Villas offers some gorgeous properties. The rustic Borgo di Campioni villa is situated within easy reach of Florence, Lucca and the beautiful beaches of Forte dei Marmi. Guests can enjoy both morning and evening sun or take cover in the large shady pergola and appreciate stunning views of the wooded hills and olive groves. Exposed stone walls and wooden beamed ceilings provide the villa with a true Tuscan flavour. A swimming pool and pool house make this an ideal family escape. Prices start from around £3,700 for ten people.

Scott Dunn is especially family-friendly when it comes to villa holidays. One of the newest additions to their portfolio is the Josefa villa in Mallorca, with swimming pool, play room and nanny service. The villa sleeps eight and prices start from £7,495 per week.

CV Travel also offers some gorgeous family villas, from the lovely sunshine-soaked Nutmeg Bay villa in the Caribbean island of Grenada, where prices start from £4,088 per week, to the less sunshine-assured but still exceedingly charming Woodland House in Herefordshire, where prices start from £1,700.

For some authentic Italian living, stay at the Borgo Storico Seghetti Panichi near the city of Ascoli Piceno in the La Marche region of Italy. The family has opened up its wonderful and historic home to guests, with accommodation in apartment suites. A special highlight of the season is the Raccolta delle Olive (the Olive Harvest) at the end of October. Guests help to pick olives before they are pressed, and each guest is given
a bottle of olive oil to take home as a memento. For details, visit www.seghettipanichi.it. Prices start from £140 for a double room with B&B.

The Pine Cliffs Resort in the Algarve, Portugal, meanwhile, combines the comforts of both hotel and villa. Spacious private villas are situated within the hotel complex, allowing guests to avail themselves of the hotel’s facilities and restaurants. Prices start from £2,950 for a family of four, for one week, including flights and transfers. Book via Tots Too.

Also in the Algarve, the Martinhal Beach Resort has a village of splendid villas, each with a pool and stunning views across Martinhal Bay, plus lots of watersports on the beach. Prices start from £139 per night in a two-bedroom Ocean Villa.
