School uniform on test: Outerwear
Our weekly parenting columnist, Kirsty McCabe, trials school uniform essentials on her four-year-old son before he starts school this September
[L] F&F School Boys Fleece-Lined Jacket, from £14, [R] Next Parka Jacket, from £30
"This is Britain, so it’s likely to be raining during some if not most of our school journeys. So I want outdoor clothes to be waterproof not just vague claims of shower proof (every meteorologist knows that showers can be heavier than rain). With a uniform suggestion of blue or navy, reflective strips are essential on darker items for the darker winter mornings. And because it doesn’t always rain, I liked the hidden hoods in the quilted M&S bomber coats."
VERDICT: "We love the rainproof lightweight zip jacket from F&F, 3-16, from £14, with reflective details and fleecy lining.
For winter Ethan just couldn’t resist the furry hood on this Next Parka Jacket, 3-16, from £30, and was keen to wake up his younger brother from his nap to show him."
