Joe Blogs: A Shortie's Shopping Guide to New York City
Forget the fashion: what a boy wants is toys, and candy, and Lego!
FAO Schwarz, 767 5th Avenue at 58th St.
As the oldest toystore in the United States, you can kick off your shoes and jump on the giant light-up keyboard – just like some dude called Tom Hanks in a movie called Big, my mummy tells me – while you browse through Ugly Dolls and Sylvanians, et al. (The Apple store is right next door, too). There's a very nice man who looks a bit like a Nutcracker who welcomes you at the door. How very civilised!
