The British flags were flying high this morning at the Marks & Spencer high summer press preview, where we were treated to an abundance of floral displays and the scent of peonies delicately wafting through the air. Luckily, it was a gorgeous, sunny morning - the perfect setting to view the summery collections.
Things have gone a bit Brit-tastic, in part due to the upcoming Diamond Jubilee on June 5. Marking 60 years of the Queen's reign everything from duvet sets to toddler's T-shirts seems to have been painted with a Union Jack and red, white and blue are certainly the colours 'du jour'. Our favourite pieces included the Corgi print and the sequinned cushion. Not forgetting, of course, the Team GB fashion collection which has something for the whole family to wear to show support for our national team. It certainly promises to be a summer of celebrations and national pride, so we might as well look the part.
And we all know that there is no party without party food, which (hooray) Marks & Spencer is also celebrating with a giant Best of British collection. Expect to find tasty treats including mini Jubilee cupcakes, iced fruit buns, raspberry, vanilla and rose jam, macaroons and strawberry and meringue Eton Mess. Savoury foods have also had a Brit makeover with selections including pea and ham salad, pork pie and egg sandwich, picnic pickles and a Coronation chicken sandwich. Wash your party picnic down with delicious drinks including Elderflower fizz, pressed Windsor apple juice or British vintage cider. We can't wait to fill up our hampers!
