The Kooky 3D Kids’ Cookbook by Mark Thacker (Hardie Grant, £9.99) comes with two pairs of funky 3D glasses to help bring the recipes to life before you begin. There are 24 delicious dishes, but I think the Superstar Sundaes are the perfect sweet treats for a party.
Superstar Sundaes
Serves 6
Ingredients
350g milk or white chocolate buttons
6 large scoops vanilla ice cream
125ml (4fl oz) strawberry or caramel sauce
Mini marshmallows, chocolate honeycomb bar, sprinkles, banana and wafers to decorate
Method
Place the chocolate buttons in a heatproof bowl. Place over a saucepan of simmering water and stand for 3–4 minutes, or until the chocolate is almost melted, then stir until smooth. Cut the zip part from 3 snap-lock sandwich bags and then cut to separate the two sides. Place a tablespoon of the melted chocolate onto the centre of the plastic square and then use the back of a spoon to spread it into a neat 13cm (5in) circle.
While the chocolate is still soft, drape the piece of plastic, chocolate side up, over an upturned glass – about 5–6cm (21/2in) across the base and 9cm (31/2in) high. Repeat with the remaining chocolate to make 6 baskets. Leave for 5–10 minutes to set. Lift from the glasses and carefully peel off the plastic (when handling, try not to put your fingers all over the chocolate baskets). The baskets can be made ahead of time and kept in an airtight container in the fridge.
Just before serving, scoop the ice cream into the chocolate baskets. Drizzle with your choice of sauce and decorate with mini marshmallows, sprinkles, crushed honeycomb bar and anything else you fancy.
