Little Joule's Autumn Winter '10

A conversation with Chloe Ward, creative director of Joules

What were your inspirations for Little Joule's new collection? Because we have such a large range, it varies a bit, but overall the inspiration comes from vintage prints. Colours are important, so we will take a really gorgeous print, for example, the print with the horses in the Autumn/Winter ‘10/11 range and then I will base the palette around those colours. With one of the ranges we have quite bold colours; it’s about colour blocking and then we have a more vintage inspired range, which has a home made feel, with big chunky hand knitted pieces. Then the other range has a more country feel, with a Fair Isle vibe.

Are there specific names for the ranges in the collection? We do, but they are rather silly internal nicknames we use.

What are your key pieces for children? I love that little chocolate coloured shirt, with the red knit cardigan which is so sweet and I love the mouse mittens that go with them.

Can you give us a little sneak preview on what’s coming up for Spring/Summer 2011? It’s all finished already! It’s a very collective look, but a bit more contemporary than previous collections. The pallets are a bit broader, from khakis to brights. We also have some older pieces, such as skinny jeans. We have focused a lot on our doodle-style prints which makes the collection look a bit looser and freer.
